Austin layoffs and jobs

If you work in Austin please do not be scared and frustrated. I was there after a very long 30+ year career. I finally tried looking and found out there is a ton of higher paying jobs. Forget money for a minute even if it’s good, I felt something I have not felt in 15 years. Peace and happiness.

Please, do not feel you have to be loyal, that was my biggest holdup.

There is so much out there. I was shocked .

If you can get into amd, go for it, they pay great but I would take half my pay at Ibm to be there.
The best Ibm had ever had to offer in Austin work at amd now. What is left at ibm Austin are those afraid to jump and those with no skills. Those afraid don’t be afraid. God Bless.

This is hogwash. Take a look at the third party benchmarking results. They look worse if they are scaled by the price.

PDH I believe you are incorrect about P8 and P9’s capabilities. Both are very fine products and have served the market well. P10 will again enhance the capabilities of Power, BUT Power is running into the commodity problem of “Intel is good enough”. Most customers of Power are realizing Intel is good enough to get the job done, thus IBM continues to service a declining marketplace. Power still way outperforms Intel (core to core), but only 5% of the customers need that performance. Everything else being equal, Intel is half the cost vs Power, and Power brand does not offer a value cloud migration path vs just rip and replace. As such most customers are voting with their feet, and the results year over year show a continued 25% decline. When customers don’t perceive value in your offering anymore (cloud or server), it’s just a rush to the bottom which is where commodity pricing plays. That’s the fundamental problem Power brand has right now Customers don’t see value

Just remember the gulf coast is close, you can get fresh shrimp. Save a couple of peelings, but them in a zip lock bag. Take it to work and dump them behind the bosses filing cabinet or somewhere no-one would think to look. A few weeks after your gone, they will start to rise on up. And people will wonder what died.

I'm an IBM outsider - just someone who has done contract work for IBM many, many times.. This is what I remember of IBM from my on and off work with them over the years:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Am_sSvIT4xk

One site in the video is Austin
Take notice of the passion these people had for their company's product line. Then tell me if you could get any of them (that are left) to sing that tune today. THAT IS SAD!

It's most definitely not that way now, Hold-on-IBMers . If anything, the different "view" of its employees by IBM would be the kick in my rear end to seek a more appreciative employer and more rewarding job - $$-wise.
And I've always made the jump from an unappreciative employer to another job with 2 weeks notice being just a polite courtesy option on my part - i.e. if it could fit within my departure plans. Failing that, too bad, IBM. Chances are stacked that IBM won't rehire you - even as a contractor. Of course, if you have a skillset IBM wants, you could spit in your boss' eye on the way out the door and get re-hired in 5 minutes. I've seen it happen- have had it happen to me personally.

So be strong; keep it together; and get that next chapter in your professional career going.

I know a manager in Austin begging ex-employees to come back to work for IBM. They cannot keep up good talent anymore. It’s really sad!
