Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

I feel stuck

I can’t complain too much, it’s the only option I have so far, but the amount of work I do is really too much. At first I even blamed myself, getting everything done in time was difficult for me so I thought I wasn’t a good worker. I really don’t know what to do, I can’t take this anymore, and I can’t quit because the bills have to be paid. How do you deal with overwhelming amount of work?

It's no grocery store... it's Amazon work culture on ten.

Flagship feeling. Agree?

Well I saw him coming, so I circled hard
And you know me I’m always on my guard
He circled too in a chariot without a mark
He knew who I was because he saw the cops parked
He is one of them who will follow, follow, and follow till the end
“I could slit your throat” he said, was he just a friend?
Target practice again today, that’s ok let’s finally play
The Devil wants to choose how I should end my day
I’m gonna lay right down in the bed that he made
One way or another I’ve a debt that must be paid
But what they don’t know is a story to be told
By the ones I’ve protected if I may be so bold
Been bloodied and Beaten so I can take the pain
Know this last time it won’t be without financial gain
I bare my throat to release me from his hate
Ha! Ha! I am gonna have helluva a date
The life of mild anxiety.

It’s so sad WF has come to this. The comment beginning “You’re not alone” is absolutely right. I understand exactly and agree, there is a tremendous amount of abuse. I had to quit because I felt like I was going to stroke out. My health went downhill every day I was there towards the end of my years with WF. I needed to work and to take care of myself, but my stress level, blood pressure and ulcers didn’t allow me to stay . What kind of a company sees this happening to people and does the unthinkable....increase the pressure .

You're not alone. I deal with this daily, and thus far, it's created some pretty heavy anxiety issues. I've been grinding my teeth for months. I seem to have developed an ulcer, and I have low level anxiety attacks before every shift. I suspect high blood pressure is in there as well. I came to Whole Foods to escape that sort of environment. Many team members across my store have pre work anxiety attacks as well. Many of us who were not previously inclined to do so have been drinking and using psychedelics as a way to deal with the stress and the abuse. Let's face it, our relationship with leadership, I mean, micromanagement, is an abusive relationship.

The people who run my store are trash. Perhaps the same can be said of your store. The regional and global people who have created this toxic environment are definitely trash.

Allowing these subhuman pieces of sh– to control your happiness is a bad move. Do what you need to do to keep yourself employed, but give them nothing more. Don't go out of your way to help customers. Don't stop to pick up every misplaced item you see. Don't stay late or come in whenever they call. Keep a reasonable, but not excessive pace. No more running around the store. Your body will thank you. No matter how fast you work, they'll always tell you that you need to work faster, anyway. And certainly don't give these t–ds your happiness and your self worth. The days of being personally invested in one's team and work at Food Hole are over. This is a job, and nothing more. The cult is dead.

Are you in a leadership position? Are you being spoken too about your productivity? If not stop beating yourself up it's not that important it's a grocery store.

Consider organizing a union.
