Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

People want out

People are once again lining up to be laid off instead of the other way around. How badly do you have to f— up as a leader for that to be true for your company?

Note to the IT guy or gal who stated Hans views IT as a commodity. So doesn't everyone else in the industry. Because it is. Doesn't mean your skills are - but the apps you support are nothing but a cost center to the business. Take your skills and move to the core of the VZ business (network) solving CS type problems. Or move to another company to do the same. Get out of "IT" unless you want to continue to be treated as a commodity.

IT at Verizon has been experiencing annual 5% plus layoffs since 2006. When Hans was hired, he viewed IT as a commodity that can be purchased as needed and has been trying to convert IT to a transient workforce ever since. It's not a great place to work under these circumstances. It's like swimming against the tide and every once in a while a tidal wave like the Infosys outsourcing which was grossly mismanaged wipes out a larger share of the team. In the meantime, it's every person for themselves.

I don't work at Verizon. Do you honestly think it's much better at other corporations? All publicly traded companies have politics, incompetence, and bureaucracy. Some are just better at marketing themselves as innovative or cool.

I've been hearing this exact sentiment from a lot of people across many channels. They are gathering their exit strategies, hoping for a severance, planning to exit without one. There is a whole lot of "do as I say, not as I do" going on, and those of us that get stuck with the extra work and no support are frazzled.

F’ed up or not that’s life. Verizon’s lifecycle is coming to an end. It does not mean that Verizon is a horrible company. Their execs tried to transform the company from a regulated to a 5G “ Digital” company. So far they have failed miserably and will continue to do so.

My suggestion for you is to move on and find a job that you will be happy with. No one is forcing you to work for Verizon. I did leave Verizon on good terms and have no complaints.

Overall, the company is decent but the leadership lacks vision. The days of Seidenberg and Babbio are behind us and don’t believe you will find this kind of caliber of leadership.

Many employees including the one below who told you to quit don’t know what it’s like at a legitimate organization. Their experience is the Verizon culture, which let me tell you is a terrible one. Once you’ve been part of a company that lives up to its standards you’ll see that Verizon leaders only care about themselves and the shareholders.

Weird. Just quit. No one is forcing you to stay. I know you want your handout, but it doesn't always work that way.
