HiPos Stuck in Planning

Anyone else notice all the HiPos finishing up their time to punch their card in planning are either being told to stay in planning for another year or being given c-appy jobs? What do you make of this?

Big Bets makes me sick. How about renaming it to big results and then holding them accountale to actually do something.

Don’t forget ‘Big Bets’ - just a glorified do-nothing holding tank for the ‘favorites’ to act like they’re contributing while insulating them from the masses or any real, value-add work. Ironic that after over a year, Gibbs said they’re “just starting to solidify some high level ideas and concepts.” Breaking new ground there...

@hhk That is great. Ironically, it will be the n'ere do well HiPos who got out when they still had a modicum of identifiable skill and not completely I indoctrinated as a professional EM manater who stands a better chance at landing a big fish in small pond position than a senior EM manager. Who would want one?

I consider this a good sign. The management “ladder” has been narrowed considerably & there aren’t as many opportunities as before.

"Smart HiPos jump ship and leverage their current expertise, it's call sliding sideways and upward. Why be a loser nobody at XOM when you can be a EVP or C-Level at a smaller company, a big shark in as small pond."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA people at XOM have a very distorted view about what the name "ExxonMobil" on your resume means.

Never understood why people do planning assignments so early on their career. Did you really just study engineering to end up as a glorified PPT editor? Save it until it’s actually hindering your CL promotion and make sure you’re guaranteed a bump up once you do it.

You know the ship is sinking when the teachers pet is being given the cold shoulder. I wonder how the teacher is going to get rid of the pet?

odq+19MsecI4 an EM Hi-Po does not translate to much in the real world. They are do nothing, know nothing, worthless employees. All they know is how to shuffle paperwork, create a nice ppt, and talk a good game. They wouldn't survive at another company with their worthless skills.

There just aren’t any good roles available. Likely they will need to PIP non HiPos out of good roles to make room for the HiPos. Even that likely will not be enough and there will be some disappointed HiPos out there.

They appear to be looking to thin the HiPo herd. Don’t need as many of them with fewer future executive slots. Elimination of global projects senior VP role was just the beginning. Expect more executive positions to not be back filled. Yeah they don’t fire them like they would you and me but they recognize no need for the roles and will eliminate them when people transfer or retire. Fewer opportunities for the HiPos going forward.
