Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

What has Pat done lately, must read if you are young, care about your career and family!

This is for those worried about layoff or security at Intel.

Intel isn’t a cost leader it is a performance leader. It makes it’s huge profits by having leadership product.

Today AMD provides competitive if not superior performance / power across the board and are only limited by capacity.

Apple gave up on Intel and their sorry execution on Modems and CPUs and we all know how amazing the M1 with an ARM core is. You can expect even more powerful mobile and desktop M1X M2, M3 etc. are coming on 5nm and soon 3nm.

Nvidia and AMD also compete on performance and leverage advance foundry silicon leadership.

Samsung and TSMC offer superior technology to any logic designer and are now are bigger and have more money to invest. Intel still invests a lot, but look at the tens of billions they spent the last 4 years only to see 10nm slip and slip and slip and 7nm slip and slip and multiple people removed with no change. That my fellow layoff candidates is 40 BILLION dollars with nothing to show!

Intel’s only chance to compete over the next three years on equal footing is to get better technology than sorry LTD / TMG. Intel designers have no corner on design or architecture innovation. Just look at Rocket Lake to see what they did or can do.

What choice to they have line but line up at Samsung or TSMC. And when they line up they will find a very good partner who wants to make them successful.

Why should Pat throw another 30 billion dollars away at internal manfucturing only to be maybe lucky and maybe competitive. Intel only has so much dollars, and limited time to get back on track as everyone else runs aways. Time for the lazy BoD to force the CEO and the SVP to make the hard decision, time has run out on Intel.

Only way Intel survives is to go asset light, ask government for 10 to 20 billion to shore up TMG/LTD and take their real business to Foundry to compete with AMD and ARM. Let the TMG monkeys waste the government 10-20 billion and create a very expensive US process and some expensive uncompetitive fabs. We all know how government programs go.

See what koolaid you believe and where you think you want your career to go, last faithful beliver on the Titanic or go and do something great where you really have a chance?

What a FUBAR the BoD and the last couple CEOs and SVP, fellows and VPs created.

Last question has Pat done anything yet? Why do you think that is?

VMWare is laying of 107 employees in there Palo Alto location. It is classified as previously planned rebalancing, with less than 1% of employees being rebalanced. Ground work was put in motion by PG. Expect the same in May 2021 as he gets familiar with excesses at Intel

If you've s—ed up to the right people, you don't have much to worry about. If you haven't, your job is at risk. The quality of your technical work alone won't save you. That's only the non-political part of your job. If you want favorable treatment from management when difficult layoff decisions have to be made, it helps if you've already done favors for them.

Employees in their 20s and 50s dont care about being layed off. 20s will get another job, 50s will retire or switch careers to retail or something, especially if they are in a big city.

People in their 30s and 40s should be scared, especially if they have liabilities in a single employer city like Folsom. Most Indians have their spouses working (aka resting) in Intel, thanks to corruption in hiring and 'diversity', so they will survive. Sometimes they just get a job with an Indian manager.

If Intel has to improve, Pat has to get rid of people by the thousands are build it from bottom up.

Old folks are in the rest and vest and don’t care. Young people don’t have that benefit and need to worry will they get fair compensation or get kicked to the curb in the next round of layoffs.

The future of the company has never been more shaky.

Manufacturing isn’t leadership, design isn’t leadership and many other alternative companies competing where Intel lack of technology leadership and attachment to x86 make it a liability.

Visions of the musicians on the Titanic playing come to mind.

Pat and co is hired to do the difficult tasks to fix problems created earlier
however, odd is against him to suceed
let see Pat will be the savior or otherwise not able to revive Intel from current state
but I bet on Intel being cash rich to be able to sustain for another 10 years, at least
