Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

DirecTV

When I started at directv, we all used to laugh at you AT&T folks, who were universally seen as sluggish, stuck on dead technologies. An AT&T team was perceived as incapable of delivering a project on time, so we needed to do it ourselves. My manager always used to complain when he had to talk to someone from AT&T. How times have changed...

DirecTV had unending projects initiated by so called "consultants" who basically came up with impossible objectives and lost the company a bunch of money. How can a 20M subs company end up with a 20 B $ debt when no one else ( Charter, Comcast, Dish ..) managed to get into that big of a hole?

Consider the inventory for the DTV satellite CPE, the bewildering number of parts, models, and kits. Each truck roll had to have a precise inventory or else the truck roll would be a waste. How much time is spent on clearing out foliage and chewed up cables from the dishes?

It is still a profitable venture and thank God that ATT sold 30% to TPG and relinquished 50% control to them. Who knows, can it go any lower??

I've been streaming ever since DirecTV and I came to a price/programming agreement when my 2 yr contract was up. The b@5t@rds doubled the price. When I called in to complain, the mgr called me a liar, so I told him to go listen to the "recorded for quality assurance tapes". He came back and claimed the conversation wasn't recorded. Who's lying?
We agreed to $48.00 & they wanted to charge me $129.00 so I told him - Turn the service off!
I must have told him 20 times, turn if off & I'm only paying what we agreed to.
I got past due billing for about a year and they sent me to collections - where I told them to just
sue me. Go ahead. I could prove the conversation as I also recorded the conversation.
Never heard again from them and I told them if they tried to ruin my credit I would call the FTC and get my buddy to sue in Federal Court.
I've had USTVnow - bad, Playstation Vue - Good but now OOB, currently have SLING which
is Great.
Sling has great programming, low cost, allows household sharing and never buffers. Always works and that's on a 6mb interconnection. I can stream on 3 TV's, access 2 PC's and talk VOIP simutanously.
Nobody needs Directv. It's dead.
Stream Sling and there's no need to thank me.
From, retired District Manager SBC.

To “Nothing deader than a dish”, BULL! Nothing beats the dependability and ease of use than a dish. Streaming services s—. Takes forever to access, search for and load a show and I have 200 mg internet. I also have 40 years with ATT.

DTV was a technological leader with that ugly dish on your house technology. Stankey the genius was so impressed he spent $48B to own it so he could say we can beautify your home with a dish on your roof and make your neighborhood notice you. LOL

Techs were about taking care of people and getting it done ! But times have changed and my super only cares about herself and the numbers we deliver to the spread sheet , like true test , nid test , proper azz covering verbiage in narrative . Number of cones I have out , aerosol cans in upright position, etc ! And all the other ancillary things that supers worry about when they have no idea of what we do !

That's why us core legacy techs make the big buck's. Go install a dish on a garge or something. While I make 40 buck's sitting in truck.

When I started at Directv the last that I can remember before the sale that the Directv and Att bundle package was around twenty percent of sales for Directv!Thats huge considering that there were more than twenty million customers that ordered that service. Having worked both sides in installing that techs are about taking care of people and getting it done!So easy now!
