Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

There is always hiring

It pisses me off that Exxon seems incapable of instituting a hiring freeze and trying to find a way to work with what we have. No, we must have major layoff over and over again while at the same time we keep bringing in new people. I understand it might have to do with replacing higher paid people with lower paid ones, but that doesn't make it right. I will never be okay with seeing so many job openings here as my former coworkers struggle to find a new job.

You definitely sound like a blind sheep here! You wanna tell how long have you been drinking the koolaid? Also, can you explain how exactly the same company and mgmt. you are defending defined their separation criteria for those that were laid off? And a lot of those that were laid of were great performers through their careers. So plesse explain how exactly they decided let go better performers than some of those low performers that are still around and are among us. The criteria I know had 70% subjectivity in it and the id–tic managment didnt even share or defined what critical skills are needed for future and what a good company fit mean. Was it so they could save their friends and likeable while DW and his buddies can continue to warm up their pockets, pants, and more? And now that the safety net from new ranking system is gone id–ts like you wont have a career with the company. You will have to survive year on year based on whether those representing you do their job without any bias or favoritism and that is not going to happen. So starting counting your time...I meant career with the co....mo–n!

There are lot's of WOKE and ENTITLED employees. Overt time they settle to the bottom of the rank group because they are OBVIOUS low performers. Cutting the bottom 3% every year (which is someone in the bottom 10% for 3 consecutive years) PIP will take care of them. 3 years in bottom 10% and 3 performance improvement plans is enough to justify termination. AND IT ALWAYS PASSES the lawsuit test. USUALLY the bottom 10% start looking and quit...which is usually good for the employee and the company. The employee is better off looking because companies will hire and pay as if they were a middle performer (hiring companies do not know low performer is ranked low). Many low performers are GOOD TALKERs, and can sell themselves oftentimes into a pay raise.

Yes. They do offer long term careers. Not everyone is entitled to one and the vast majority of the company that stays around will have a long term career here. You're the dumb sh– arrogant employee with comments that reek of entitlement. Just because the company says that they hire for careers means that layoffs will not happen. You're a mo–n if you believe otherwise.

Some of the arrogant id–ts here. No one feels entitled anywhere. Everyone knows jobs are not guaranteed. What people are upset about is the company making false promises to "hire for career" and than back stab those with any subjective reasoning while the irresponsible and incapable mgmt. keeps piling money in their bank accounts. This is what people have problem with, id–ts!

This thread just sounds like OP is complaining about Americans losing their job. Get over it you bunch of whiny Americans and realize that jobs are not guaranteed. F— op and his silly mentality that this company should act as a charity case and help out those no longer needed.

They fired quality technical people but they have space for fluff positions in PR:
“Looking for a proactive media professional to join the ExxonMobil team. We want a creative thinker who knows how to tell a story on multiple platforms, working with an integrated team of communications and marketing pros.”
Lying and pretending is more critical than value added through core technical capabilities

GBC is a minor issue. The invasion has been completed. India is already in EMHQ. Look around.

Company strategy is to transfer work from higher cost (USA, Canada Europe, Singapore, etc) to lower cost locations (GBC, KL, Bangalore, etc). The company is under no obligation to retain higher cost lobor if they think that its more beneficial to the company (competitive advantage) to outsource.

@OP just sounds like they and others in high cost locations are entitled to their jobs. I'm sorry that you do not agree with the business decisions of the company and are upset that the company is bringing on new employees in low cost locations while those laid off still struggle. Thus is life and the business environment.
