Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Long term career

Remember when this was the kind of place where people were ecstatic to get a job because it meant a chance at a good, long term career? Remember when people used to join Verizon fully expecting to stay the course and retire here? Now the only ones who still want to stay here until retirement are those who only have a few years left and it's easier to s— it up than leave so close to the end-line. Everybody else is simply k–ling time while looking for something better. To say things have changed would be an understatement.

Verizon does not want people past 10 years, last lay offs proved that just in my area. Only the 2 youngest, single people were kept the others like me with over 15+ years were let go. And have heard same stories from other areas as well.

I do remember those times.

It was New York Telephone back then. And it was great!

It's hard not to think that there is two options, they are running it to the ground on purpose or they are just that inept. Maybe both.

I’ve been at vzw for 20 years. It’s a sh!tshow to say the least. They cut ops teams. Sups have more staff, more responsibility, more metrics, more systems that don’t work... more more more is what they want from their employees but they give nothing more in return. HR in customer care is a joke. Employees time and pay is screwed up and noone can help. Noone cares. A union would help for sure or a lawsuit. That’s the only way to get the executives to listen. imho

It’s just a shame that you work most of your life and a few are at the top with all the money and don’t understand the simple thing, if you keep worrying about the bottom line all the time you can artificially get there. But if the people WANT to do it for you and you built that culture you will not have to work so hard. There is no teaching how to do it, it’s just go do it or I will find a lemming who will.

It is time to think selfish and work for your own skill set.

The least valued asset at Verizon are it’s own employees. You can want things all day but Verizon brass have other plans.

Wanting a stable medium paying job isnt a hand out..... Wanting to be valued by the company you work for isn't unreasonable

Remember when you were a kid and you wanted a participation trophy for playing sports . It’s never enough for any of you losers.

It’s not just VZ. Almost all companies are in the same position. Life is more unpredictable now.

the careerists of Verizon who preached to us back in the day are the reason it’s in the sad state it’s in now. it’s ironic, actually.
