Two kinds of leaders

Saw this quote on LinkedIn and thought it belonged here.

“There are two kinds of leaders. Those that see their job as standing up to their team on behalf of their bosses, or those that stand up to their bosses on behalf of their team.”

If being popular with your superiors gets people promoted/recognized, and taking care of your team (and your customers) doesn’t... expect attrition.

Canadian EMIT mafia is among the worst in Exxon. I though Canadians were supposed to be nice, decent people - Canadian EMIT is populated by major a**oles

@1odw+19Sug5EJ EMIT here, had multiple Canadian managers over the years. Many were great but a few were exactly as described.

If you don’t like the leaders at XOM then you should come and see the puppets at Imperial who can’t utter a word or even go to the toilet unless they get permission from their superiors down south

But yes men get to the top, get issued RSUs and get to PIP people, fly around in company jets and keep the job no matter how poor a job they are doing. Yes men for the win! Don’t be jealous just because you didn’t get the perks and forced to sc-ape sh–!

Those that consistently side with their bosses when they are clearly wrong are not leaders, they are yes men. And please don't use the term leader just because someone is a boss or management. Anyone can follow orders, it takes talent and courage to be a real leader. Exxon has nothing but yes men.
