Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Is there a severance if a club is closing?

I know people receive severance when their position is removed or they're laid off but what about when a club closes? I used to think so but a friend used to work at a Sears that closed during the pandemic and she was upset because they received nothing (she was full-time and had worked there for nearly a decade.) I know it's not the same but I still have to ask, is there any kind of severance package when a club closes?

They used to give 1 week of pay for every year of service. Then it changed to 6 weeks max. Now who knows. They change it every year.

In Virginia when the club closed, you were working like crazy to sell all the merchandise. Everyone received 60 days pay. Some were trying to find positions in other clubs so they didn’t lose their seniority.

Which Sears store did your friend work at?

That really is unpredictable. Yes no maybe. I don't think there is any law dictating such. I know that you would be offered the opportunity to find another position somewhere in the company but as far as severance you can hope they would offer it to you but don't hold your breath.

When Clubs closed a few years ago, i don’t believe they got severance, but were paid for 60 after club closed. Not 100% sure but i recall something to that effect
