Chevron rehire policy

So..... I’m curious if anyone knows what chevrons rehire policy is.

I took the EOI in December, I also applied for unemployment. To stay eligible, you have to apply for 3 jobs per week.

Today I was browsing the job postings and noticed Chevron posted an ad for one of my past jobs. It’s a job I had for over 4 years. I know no one would be more qualified to for that job than me, I already know it like the back of my hand.

However, I was just laid off.....

Is there a certain amount of time that needs to pass before you can be rehired after receiving a severance?

Just curious...

I took the severance in Jan. 2021. I did not take a distribution on my retirement (401k or pension). Chevron wants to bring me back but HR is telling them I can't return for another 2 years fulltime, even as a contractor. I think this is incorrect but I'm not sure what the truth is.

Get re-hired? Please don’t make me laugh. If by chance you decided to EOI and volunteered to retire, you may have a very slight chance of getting re-hired. But, if you tried to hang on and were laid off, never will they re-hire you again. Don’t waste your time applying. You’ll only be disappointed again.

Come back and do your old job as an independent Contractor. You retain your retirement benefits pension medical etc. you’ll get paid more generally as a contractor and you won’t feel as bad when you get booted out the door the next time.

Varies by PSG. In the lower echelons your severance agreement letter will mention a limit. Upper PSG are not limited.

12 months or you have to repay severance
3 years if you initiated the pension. There are some rules on earlier hiring at reduced capacity.

The first response is correct with one qualifier. If you moved money out of your 401K or Pension, you can't be rehired for 3 years without really high approval due to the concerns about "sham retirements" and how they could endanger the pension and 401K plan tax eligibility.

So 12 months if you keep your pension/401K put, 3 years if you moved them. Similar applies for contract work.

There is no time limit. You can be rehired immediately and keep the severance, if Chevron chooses to offer you a job. Good luck!

Just apply for it. What can it hurt? Then you’ll find out for sure what the policy is. Who knows? You might get your old CAI back.

I believe 12 months has to pass before being rehired or you have payback entire lump sum severance you received, pretax amount.
