Sanders, Warren legislation would hike taxes to curb 'absurd' CEO pay

Oh, how many jobs are going to be on the line to pay this "tax". You know no one is going to take a pay cut.

"Oh, how many jobs are going to be on the line to pay this "tax""
It is an absurd comment. There should be no job present at AT&T or any other company where the employee, after wages and other costs doesn't contribute to the profitability of the company. (Yes, you can be the janitor for a group, but the group needs to deliver a profit after wage and other costs.)

So, there should be no job cut that is economically feasible, because the job to cut shouldn't be present in the first place. AT&T not operating as efficiently as Verizon was a chief Elliott complaint.

Sadly, Att has horrific leadership, therefore we as employees are disgusted by their pay.

Taking a dollar from a different employee in no way means you'll see that dollar.

While many CEO compensation packages are beyond exorbitant, this law is clearly unconstitutional and if it were enacted, would lead to a ton of unexpected consequences.

  • Companies would find other methods to "pay" CEOs rather than direct compensation
  • Companies will outsource low paying jobs so that CEOs can be paid more

Bottom line though - good CEOs are worth every penny they get because they bring that value back to the company. A good example in Telecom is T-Mobile under Legere vs AT&T under Stankey & Stephenson. Legere grew his company, created jobs, created value...and we all know what we got from Stank - unhappy employees, unhappy stockholders, unhappy customers

If you bought $10k of Apple the day Tim Cook took over as CEO (Aug 2011), you'd have about $90,000 (plus dividends today).
If you bought $10k of AT&T the same day, you'd now have $10.197 (plus bigger dividends)
Is Tim Cook worth what he was paid? He's grown the company 9 times...Imagine where Apple would be today if Stephenson had been CEO. Cook took an ~$400 billion dollar company and made it worth near $3 trillion. Apple has happy customers, many happy employees (lots with stock options), and happy investors. Win-win for everyone. Meanwhile, AT&T with it's CEOs, has this forum, filled with disgruntled long term employees who have worked hard only to lose their job and then be told their benefits are being pulled out from under them.

Let the CEOs make what they're worth...Too bad they can't pass a law forcing companies to get rid of incompetent boards and the CEOs they protect.

yep somehow I don't think the ceo's will lose anything and it will be the employees that pay the price as usual.
