Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Can I say I told you so!

2023 is fast approaching, there is no work and people are just sitting around or doing routine tickets. No new jobs in the future, hope I am wrong but it doesn’t bode well for the union.

Getting tons of OT in Fios, especially since the pandemic has created a growing work from home industry and the 5g thing has been nothing more than a paper tiger, still 10+ years away from being anything viable. And seeing how scabs couldn’t figure out how to take a ladder off of a truck, there’s no way they will be able to figure out how to put “two wires together”, let alone splice fiber, etc. Carry on.

Imagine wasting over 30 years of your life pulling wires and still hoping for a handout because you still can't support yourself. Add to that being terrified of getting sold off or laid off when your contract expires and basically being unemployable because you are a union entitlement product no one wants. 2023 is coming! Tick tock! Tick tock!

Oh, I gotta go. My meatloaf is ready! Bye losers!

There will be a 3 year extension to this contract 100% done deal end of conversation you can rant about your anti union bs all day doesn't matter this contract extension is already written in stone so you have 5 more years to talk about hand outs and obsolete employees but the fact is the union employees are in a far better place and will be til at least 2026

At 56 he probably took the lump sum instead of the annuity. He's all set. How you doing?

Hopefully that pension payment doesn't get reduced or is turned insolvent. Depending on that is sad...

You want to know what sad?
The Verizon non union worker who has to constantly up their resume because they can be flicked off the payroll like a crumb off a table hating people who aren’t in that position
The smart thing would be to unionize, but their hatred and ignorance makes them stand in line for the chopping block while convincing themselves they are superior for it.
That’s sad. These people are convinced the constant threat of job insecurity, shrinking benefits, and ridiculous metrics is the way to go. They scramble for what? Advancement? We know and have seen how that works. The outdated and detrimental tactic of Verizon to create conflict between union/ non union is easy to see through.
But you need to trust your eyes and ears, not what Verizon tells you.
I’m 56, retired, not a care in the world financially ( gratefully) And I’m union. Co- workers I started with who went into management “ to advance themselves” are still working, at other companies, because Verizon flicked them off the table.
As corporations don’t care at all about employees unless they are bound by law to do so. There are a few at the top, and everyone else are just crumbs on the table.
So stop criticizing employees who seek security, your way doesn’t work so well, and is far from being the superior life tactic

We will most definitely have to "circle back" to this discussion after the contract extension

Agree. Unions are not sustainable and their members don't pull their own weight, so the government has to bail them out. Just a bunch a welfare recipients. Just the way it is...

Yeah sounds good. But when telephone poles are falling over, fiber mysteriously being cut, the govt will ensure the unions get a nice big fat raise, extra vacation time, and another 3 year contract. Just the way it goes
