A friend was telling me that in bay area the average salary of a software engineer is 200K or more. Is this true?

Not true, perhaps ~$150k on average. $200k avg sounds like Google pay check.
Not at cisco. Most of that is offshored and it shows.
Are they allowed to eat burgers?
After the apartment rent and bmw lease payment, you'll have enough left over for one monthly trip to in-n-out burger
It takes $100k just to rent an apartment there.
With stock options and bonuses , base is usually between 90-140K
The bay area companies hire junior and senior software engineers. Most of the junior come from offshore recruiting. If you become senior (with stock options) you could reach that potential. However many software engineers at Cisco just go straight to manager level instead.
Especially if you know someone in management.
Yes with both jobs.
