Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Now the combined company has approx 6600 employees currently

With a combined workforce of 6600 now Cenovus will plan to shrink this number down to 4000-4500 in the coming years!! Expect layoffs without notice next quarter and by year end!! They have to make their year end look good!! At 6600 people the company is to fat.. Remember how Cenovus runs lean lean lean..

And Alex, in your town halls, please stop saying “well, listen..., this is how I look at it” followed by some redneck comment. It’s embarrassing

Alex,
You are so tone deaf. You post about company safety and distractions. What do you think has caused the distractions? Here’s a hint it might have something to do with people going through layoffs twice in 6 weeks. How do you have mind on task during a winter program while at the same time go through two rounds of layoffs and integration of two companies. Yeah that’s hard to figure out.

And take your talk of company culture and stuff it. Since 2012 we have had layoffs every year so I am done with even pretending to care about this company or it’s culture. No one will ever believe you again when you say no more layoffs.

I will not join in any company culture garbage as it just does not matter to me just like I don’t matter to you.

Until I hear the CLT is not collecting millions in retention bonuses it’s all just talk from you. Is your motto the guys at the top get richer while the employees get thrown to the curve? I could at least get around the honesty of that.

No way they can cut more people, company is already super lean and this new cenovus is not just FCCL that they can run as templated process and keep cutting people, husky assets are much more complicated with many Downstream facilities. 6600 people for new cenovus is bare minimum they can afford to have but yes if oil goes to 30$ they will do whatever they can to protect shareholders and Alex and CLT stock options

I Agree on the culture talk and looking ahead. Tone deaf ! Way too soon AP!. We just watched too many friends and coworkers get let go.

Your whole damn company is hurting.

Seriously, Take that off The Bridge bud.

Who remembers the last HR VP who couldn't do math and did not know the people count actually went up during her tenure during the layoffs.

Wonder if the same thing will be happening here. BP does have a revolving door.

This company and its management have proven time and time again that they don’t care about any employees and we are all expendable to them.

That’s why anyone who has any loyalty to Cenovus is just a dolt. Go to work and get paid and then go home to your family and live a real life. It’s just a job and if you treat it like that you will stay sane.

6000 people is way less than Suncor that has more than double.

No buyers? Arc, Spartan and Crescent Point alone just announced $5B in deals in the past few weeks.

There are little to no buyers right now, the sale could take years as banks are not leading money to oil companies. And the oil companies’ goal right now is to fix balance sheets by reducing debt.

Asset sales are already in the works. This number seems reasonable. Conventional is first to go out the door.

And in the meantime we have to listen to a bunch of garbage about building a company culture, team building and coming together. How do you build any of this with more layoffs all year long? I have no time for it. This place is a pay check and nothing more.
