Thread regarding IBM layoffs

How likely are they to give voluntary packages?

The voluntary package would have to be significantly better (several X) than the layoff package - otherwise people will just linger and not do much work, and wait for the next layoff, and the next, and the next. The other issue with the voluntary option, is that the best people will tend to take it, knowing they can easily get another job.

Exactly, @1esx+19aw85c0! So I doubt they will offer them, but on the other hand they would have many benefits if they offered voluntary packages.

I have never heard of any successful voluntary packages with IBM. Maybe few have been successful, but haven’t heard from my networks of sales and consultants networks.

I am sure IBM will hire some kids from college, that will solve the problem for a while!

They already did in UKI. 6 months full salary. More than twice as many people expressed interest than they had slots for! Lots of unhappy people who didn’t get picked. Now we have an extreme attrition problem. But as per usual, all of the people who leave are high performers and we are left with a permanent underclass of poor performers.
