Thread regarding IBM layoffs

IBM is getting it's head handed to it in Cloud

AWS: In billions
Q4 2019 $9,954 Q4 2020 $12,742
All of: 2019 $35,026 All of: 2020 $45,370

Google Cloud: In billions
Q4 2019 $2,614 Q4 2020 $3,831
All of: 2019 $8,918 All of: 2020 $13,059

So much for a COVID slow down. Or blaming Gartner etc etc. As an IBMer I am not shocked, but I am amazed at the incompetence from the Board to SVP's year after year.

Hang its Red Hat on the cloud and AWS, Azure, and Google are destroying the IBM cloud. Check out the latest Gartner report. They consider the IBM Cloud business as a niche product. That can't be good for any company.

The big cloud players Microsoft, Amazon, Google have other big revenue streams and can afford to run cloud services way below cost and attract a lot of big talent plus provide excellent support. IBM and the rest can't I don't even know why they waste their time trying. . In doing so they have cut all real competition and created a national security risk. Microsoft is the worst at this and dominates through their noncompetitive licensing models. The governments of the world need to step in and stop this practice before something really bad happens. There is just to many eggs in the Microsoft,AWS, Google baskets but a ton of business critical applications in Microsoft's. Solar winds hack should have been a wake call for a lot of fortune 500 companies to move away from the cloud or at least move into small more expensive ones like IBM.

Hybrid cloud, as defined by ibm is clients who are tied to mainframe, but want newer capabilities for other use cases. Defend Z at all cost appears to be the REAL strategy.
Sellers who compete for new business work elsewhere.
All of the strategies tried in the last decade failed since they were driven by internal thinking, and how this exec could move up to the next step where the bonuses are bigger.

What about something radically different - for example, trying to offer the customers what they actually want?

Is IBM the GM of IT ? With those line-ups of CEO, you would think.
Gotta think past the Cloud thingie.. think out of the box.. blockchain no.. AI no.. hey what about ransomware ? now there's a future (not)

@1atr+19dXRG8V Bingo!
AK's just buying time so gets his millions.
Remember how he always mentions the word 'hybrid' so that ibm shouldn't be compared to aws or azure lol it's a chapter from ginnis book.

They don't want growth... they just want to enrich themselves as long as possible.

AK will finish what Ginny started. The only thing IBM is good at is to reduce headcount to maintain EPS despite declining revenue. They have been doing this for a long time. I wonder when someone in Armonk will realize that you can't cut your way to growth?

From the big(ish) man: "...to bring to life the components of IBM’s strategy, our uniquely defensible approach to hybrid cloud and AI, ..."

Who the heck writes c-ap like that? Why do we need to be "uniquely defensible?" Against whom are we defending? And why is this unique? Not to be overtly political here, but this has got "stable genius" written all over it.

Their "all in on cloud" credo has been a Biblical fail at best.
IMO they should cut their losses and jump on any new bandwagon.
Cloud is a money pit for IBM
