Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Trust with team members

Have you all noticed reduced trust within your teams? Maybe there are just bad actors but some colleagues are passively not supporting others to exceed. Either by not sharing knowledge or by being possessive. Maybe remote work is enabling these behaviors. We Lead needs to emphasize traits that discourage knowledge hording, possessiveness and sabatoge of others by inaction.

Lets see I bought Bitcoin at 11450 today it's at 47000, why are you concerned about CIP?

Trust no one! I had a colleague who wouldn't forward me meeting invites to meetings I should have been attending because he didn't want to get up staged. In secure little man.

I'm so happy that there's a website for laid off people, and those who are obviously about to be laid off.

You will be a fool to trust anyone under any condition let alone your coworkers! As an old saying "Trust in god"!

At least in IT, the new process model is so different from before, and most people weren't trained yet. A lot of folks are also trying to figure out what they'll be working on in the new org. It's the environment, not the people that's causing the problems, hopefully things will improve once teams are clear about their goals.

Spot on. Wake up snowflakes. My experience as a field engineer many years ago. The grizzly experienced rig pushers on the workover rigs reported carrying out a job very much aligned to the green school boy engineer's detailed specs. I gained respect for the pusher when I realized they deviated as much as they needed to from the boy in the bubbles "I know better than you" plan to get the job done and keep the rig out of trouble. That old boy chain smoking Camel straights forgot more than I would ever learn.

We lead! Haha Just another catch phrase. Leadership needs to focus on the business and people’s capabilities. Unfortunately that’s not what’s happening based on many of their selections.

Ohh harden up Princess welcome to the real world. It’s a bit of a rude awakening having to think for yourself after being spoon fed isn’t it.

Can’t help but agree with the first two respondents of this bleat. Get out of the A/C and into a field where I’m sure any tradespeople will assist you with your transition, if you treat them with respect.
Any tradesperson can tell you. You learn more in the first 6 months after your apprenticeship, by having to think for yourself. It sounds like you are going through a similar period whatever your age.

In the field its as simple as ABC. Assume nothing. Believe no one else’s findings. Check everything yourself. However listen to the tradespeople. Their sphere of knowledge may not be as broad as yours but they will probably know more than you, about their immediate surroundings.

Remember field people are innately wary of anyone from head office. They are also not there to be at your beck and call. They are there trying to get oil out of the ground and probably believe head office personnel are more a hinderance than a help.

Some of this comes from all the drivel of unproductive initiatives that people in head office generate to justify their existence. Another reason is probably the amount of rework asked of the field to correct failed projects, especially if the field personnel’s input was ignored.

OK go forth break out of that delicate office chrysalis that’s obviously cocooned you from the harsh truth for so long!

Haha, I am amused. You must be the one who took my job. Unfortunately letting go experienced folks does have some implications. Good luck with the We Lead thing. I am sure that write-up will go a long way in helping you getting promoted.
