Apple is MUCH better than Intel (both pay & culture wise).

I think it’s good to see ex-Intel people return to provide the perspective of how things are outside Intel. It’s encouraging to see there are better opportunities elsewhere. I would add in that there are many other better opportunities besides FAANG. Don’t overlook the small to medium-sized growth companies, as you could land in the next great oligopoly.

For those who love other companies, just don’t hang out on intel lay-off board. Ok. It is strange for you to hate intel and love those places that you supposedly got hired, yet you still hang out on intel board. Come on. LOSER

Move on.

To answer your question. @1uwr+19exgRV6

Apple acquired a few semi startups early on. One of them was palo alto semi (PA Semi) where Jim Keller worked.

Apple also acquired other types of semi tech such as anobit that gave them more expertise to use flash storage better and more effectively. This happened about a decade ago. So they have been building strong semi tech expertise and designing its own chips and flash storage. Also, Apple historically a hardware centric company. Has nothing to do with the bozos they hired from intel mobile, I mean iCDG specifically,

Much greener elsewhere.

Meetings are productive and decisions are made by the handful of people that actually understand the issue instead of a giant committee.

Managers are very technical all the way through the SVP ranks.

Products ship or heads roll. You don’t fail upwards.

Pay is MUCH better. I left Intel at grade 8 for double the pay and it’s only gone up from there.

@1uwr+19exgRV6 Intel arrogance and incompetence allows this cognitive dissonance where Nvidia/Apple/AMD all trounce Intel with "rejects"

There is a huge management problem, test it for yourself, go ask your manager what are the very top company wide priorities you should keep in mind and focus on right now and listen to their responses..... if they can even think of one.

If Apple got intel rejects then how the hell is the M1 performance so good? Maybe that indicates an even larger management problem?

It is cute when Intel dead-enders pretend their workplace is not a political charnel house.

@1gug, sorry for your experience. I dont work with any of these small talkers or who waste time talking personal stuff in meetings.

Well, these folks did not contribute at Intel because they did not bloviate endlessly in meetings or make small talk about their shared home village.

@1bag, I agree with you that many folks, who I truly believed did not contribute a lick at intel end up getting hired at these companies. I don't quite understand some of it though. I have witnessed some of these folks myself and they were not so good. Not committed, nor reliable. May be just good talkers ?

@nru, can you please elaborate "apple has good leadership"
Please dont tell me look at their stock price or their products. I am just curious what aspects of leadership you like vs Intel

In Portland, MSFT hires many former Intel folks, who were mostly ISP'ed.
Apple picked up some good people from Intel, and they paid them more because they do not need to be trained.

When you look at the some of the intel people who have been hired by Google, msft, fb and Apple, they actually got some of our rejects, worse people. I am sure there are some highly talented intel people who joined those companies as well but I can tell you based on my own personal knowledge and you can easily check this, but below are facts

1) Apple first of all got some of our worst people from the mobile side. Apple actually recruited those people before getting them through the divestiture. In other words, by paying more for them vs. getting them through divestiture which made no sense what so ever. I.e. Messay and others. Remember Barbara joining as diversity Chief recently. She was our diversity Chief.I am not sure what she has done at intel for diversity other than being one herself.

2) google has been hiring some of our rejects especially from BU, sales, finance - more business type people. Just check, it is surprising to me to see some of the really weak intel people ending up at google. Don’t forget google hired our Chief diversity officer, BK’s TA, Danielle B. She had no qualification to be a VP at intel. She was promoted from the alp program.... there are actually worse people than DB who recently joined google from intel

3) Facebook. Same story. I mean where to start, just check intel + Facebook on linked in. You will agree with me. Market watch type marcom smoke screen people. By the way, this is better than others who later joined FB from intel.

4) msft. They have been hiring some of our engineers in Oregon. Some of these people actually fired by intel.

Amazon same story. Hey. Amazon hired Aicha. Stupid BK promoted her and purchased her home to keep her. What a bozo. Now her crazy electric robo taxi company was purchased by amazon.

Do you think that these companies are great. Doubtful. They have growth, stock price appreciation, and no stupid ceo/cfo who constantly lay-off people and pay themselves high compensation packages. Yes, for those reasons, they are better than intel.

@nru do you have specialized skill set?

I was at intel 10 years and left at grade 7, total compensation: 150K

I joined Apple as ict 4 and 300K TC.

Same WLB and same culture just way better pay. Also Apple has better leadership.
