Leaving OCI & Oracle Very Soon

Long time OCIer here, 5+ years in Seattle with that group. One of the OCI OG’s.

I’ve seen the handwriting on the wall for OCI. Yes it is a business that JUST hit a $1B run rate. It is growing, but slowly.

I’m in the final stages of interviewing with 4-5 different firms. Some compete with Oracle, others not. None of them are the big IaaS players.

I’ll just tell you that salaries and equity are far better (25-75% increase on base; 2-4x increase on equity, big bonuses guaranteed) beyond what Oracle is paying, even the spoiled ranks of OCI in Seattle.

I’ll be gone within a month. ALL of the oops I’ve been interviewing for are better than anything at Oracle. The main thing is that I am getting out of Oracle on MY terms, will get paid what I am worth, and work for real modern cloud companies that have real businesses and are growing FAST.

I can’t wait to get out and start the next big thing. I will definitely I felt report back here.

My advice to everyone is that the job market is hot out there. Get out while you can. Sharpen those resumes and find those jobs. Interview aggressively. Research what you are REALLY worth in the market, not the depressed c-ap pittance of a salary that Oracle has lulled you into believing that you are lucky enough to earn from them.

Your future is in your own hands. Go out and seriously folks …. Make it happen.

I did leave OCI and Oracle, for good, for greener pastures. A small but highly regarded startup in the open source cloud space that is growing fast. A company that OCI is trying desperately to partner with, LOL.

$300K base salary, $300K equity over four years (vesting at 25% per year), all health insurance for me and family 100% paid by company. Senior Director title, which is equivalent to the inflated “VP” title at Oracle, as we know Oracle has title inflation by 1-2 levels over other companies. 8 weeks vacation (but moving to the “unlimited” model that other companies are using). Remote job/company and encouraged to live/work anywhere. Allowance upon hire to outfit home office with anything wanted.

So yes, left Oracle behind and joined a real cloud company that is growing very fast, super well respected, and will definitely be a huge asset on my resume.

I would not at all say that working for Oracle was a detriment to my resume when interviewing, but definitely also was not considered to be an asset.

I recommend to you folks who want to improve your lives and really obtain the salary and benefits that reflect what you are really worth in the marketplace, to interview aggressively and leave Oracle when you find the right job

You can do it! Countless people here have done it, and 100% of the time they report that their lives are better for it. I am no exception.

Good luck to all. If you deliberately choose to stay at Oracle out of laziness, a sense of defeatism and being beat down, or because you think you will get ahead at Oracle, you deserve what WILL come to you.

What sort of base and equity are being offered outside? I have young relative that started at Apple with 2 yrs experience and was getting 170k first year total, which seemed not that high.

If you don’t have cloud skills, or are coming from another BU... get some! Everything this poster is saying is true.
