What happens when Cenovus is sold?

Cenovus is the only company in the oil patch where you take over another company and need to worry about your job. It’s just a cruel joke. Name one other company that has done this!! Cenovus did it with Conoco taking on a bunch of useless overhead management and then did rounds of layoffs to correct it and once again with Husky. Taking on more useless management and going through rounds of layoffs. I’m okay bringing on individual workers as we need them but more management is the one thing we don’t need.

They used to do these things over a day or two. Are they trying to see how many people lose their marbles stringing this out over months in the middle of a pandemic?

Our Leader just sent us an email stating 'Business as Usual' tomorrow as our department will not be impacted.

These kind of predictions usually come and go with a big nada. No one who really knows would be posting here. Just the little people here. The big guys who would know are too well looked after to bother.

Legacy Cenovus - Are you aware that the Technical Authority and Downstream/Midstream Projects Technical Support Team were formerly Husky Technical Services Group disbanded in 2019 when the SR VP was fired? Involving Technical Services was always voluntary so seasoned Project Managers often would ignore their input recognizing gold plating when they saw it. This group of clowns would sent out a Customer Survey every time they would complete the simplest of tasks in a IT help desk application called SERVICE NOW. True Professionals.

How about a VP of Land with a single reporting Director of Land? This company is a mess.

How about having a VP of Environment & Regulatory and right under him a Director of Environment & Regulatory? What obvious high paid duplication. How about carving up Surface Land and placing three managers where there was one. How about 3 VPs of Safety and a director where we had 1 VP of EH&S.

Alex’s announcements say he’s making tough decisions but his actions suggest otherwise.

Fairness and respect? No one believes you’re making tough decisions, just easy ones that don’t affect you and your buddies at the top. Except maybe giving them $30M in bonuses, that must have been really tough.

How about acting like a CEO and take a long hard look at our new management heavy structure before you come after more employees.

What is an individual contributor? Is that a Husky thing?

Next round will be Level 8, 9, 10 Individual Contributors on Tuesday February 9th. Do not expect advanced notice this time. Only those affected will be contacted in Teams by their Manager. Target 400 employees.

I’ve got an idea for Alex. Sell the SK thermals to Serafina. Sell Sunrise & Tucker Lake to CNRL. Like Encana did with Ember - staff and all. No severance packages required.

Groups like TA just slow the work down by adding cost & complexity. Out with the “old” and in with the “new”. Cenovus has some of the best bitumen plays in Alberta. Let’s not dilute with Husky c-ap like Sunrise & Tucker Lake. Sell Baby Sell.

Group leads with 5 people? That’s the problem with this company and why it’ll never get better. Too many fancy titles and not enough people to do the actual work.

My group barely got touched. Plenty of dead weight remaining, mostly in the form of managers with few direct reports.

They've already announced layoffs for next year as well. It's gonna be forever until the company is sold
