Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Alex is a Comedian, love the guy

One of his goals for 2021 is to creat a stabile workforce and advance a high performance culture. God this guy is either trying to be really funny and failing miserably or is delusional.

Let’s see:

  1. He’s laying more people off in a month and then all year long and probably another round next year once he realizes he has a bloated management. That works well for a stabile and high performing work force.
  1. The bloated management is ridiculous and has been commented on enough already.
  1. People are disillusioned with his lies about retention bonuses for management while laying 2,000 people off. Some senior mgmt pocketing $600K+. That makes me feel great.
  1. We just saw all our friends and colleagues be laid off and supposed to just shut up and be happy to have a job as we are told many times by their posting on this site.

Alex,
You have made Cenovus into a place where we come to get a pay check and that’s it. It’s not a place to grow a career anymore (unless you’re a chosen one by Drew). It’s a place you get a pay check until our next round of layoffs and the next round. And we will have more rounds and more rounds. That’s not conducive to a high performance culture and it’s not what any sane person would call stable.

This guy has lost all credibility.

Added layers of management PLUS Husky brought over tonnes of former “managers” as individual contributors, so of course they are all chomping at the bit to resume their high profile managerial careers. I have a question, did Husky just promote people to manager when they hit 35? Like who wasn’t a manager over there? Lol! So now they have created an atmosphere of uncertainty and fear for existing managers as they now have individual contributors with managerial experience waiting...just waiting for you to screw up! Good times!

All this does is show Alex is not serious about having an efficient organization. Way too much HR and way too much management. Our group went from one manager to him and 3 more Husky managers. Not a joke, well I guess it is sadly a joke.

Indeed, these handpicked young arrogant managers are way too numerous, I can’t see how any decision will be made with so many layers of bureaucracy. Besides, has anyone heard about a strategy? Saving $1.2 billion by chopping heads is not a strategy. Any reason for liking this company and wanting to roll up one’s sleeves? If you have a clue, thanks for sharing it.

More people should be upset with the retention bonuses. We're being asked to look for more "synergies" while at the same time $31 MM being paid to execs in the form of retention bonuses.

And why do we need giant poster-sized pictures of execs accompanying updates on thebridge when a thumbnail would do? Is this some form of idol worship?

Are you telling me the board knows what an “Industry thought leader” is? Please explain.

You need to understand that Alex’s goals are not written for you as employees. They are written to the Board. That’s the real audience to these Goals.

“Industry Thought Leader”
This must have been written by some woke high placed communications staff or consultants.

If you go further into it he has such unmeasurable goals that it makes this even more unfunny in my opinion. “Build a industry leading people experience “ if that’s not Orwellian 1984 double speak I don’t know what is. Add that to the “efficient and effective work force transition” AKA more ongoing layoffs and that’s one hell of a goal.

The distance between our dreams and reality is called action. Our dream will remain a dream if we don't do anything about it. Fighting for a better job or looking for a better job.
