What happens to the loads of engineers in Spring who support these refineries and pretend as though the units are running because of them?
In the US at least - it is time to close Baton Rouge and Baytown.
We can still just bulldoze them into the rivers and escape the cleanup costs.
Before the EPA gets back on its feet, you know.
Do it now.
Singapore complex is extremely expensive...time to consider a cut.
This same question is going to be asked over the next couple decades as demand diminishes. Margins will remain razor thin and it will continue to be a race to survive competitors.
Based on economics, everyone saw this announcement coming. The real question is, which refineries will be next? Clearly this issue is not limited to Australia. Could France (NDG, Fos), Italy (Trecate) or the US (Billings, Joliet) be next? UK? Unfortunately, any dragging assets must be removed otherwise the rest of the company is put at risk.
