Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Question on applying internal.

Good evening. If I apply for an internal IBM post and if I don’t hear back by Monday, 2/15, how does IBM handle those situations.

I know you probably say leave and don’t look back, I have some tough financial situation that is going to be very tough to handle not being at IBM (Long story).

Read the topic titled: Court docs show how IBM chooses layoffs

That gives you a good idea of IBM's HR stance. They are not on your side - they represent IBM, not you. They will not help you. You help you.

I feel for this guy. I've been with IBM for 20 years and it just keeps getting worse. I'm on the technical side in Systems. I hate it too since I love the technical side but lothe IBM as a place to work. Not my coworkers, but our management. I wish you the best of luck.
To younger folks that might be reading this; debt makes you a prisoner. It's easier said than done, but always pay yourself first and keep debt low. You never know when you will lose your job or hate your job and want to leave.

@bov If you want to come back as a contractor, you have to hit them hard for $$$ They will low ball you as if you were born yesterday.

I decided to ask the HR id on how to
Handle my situation. It was one of the coldest email responses. I’m angrier now. I wanted to respond back and say “do you have any f&@!ing idea what I or rest of the RA’d individuals are going through.. giving us some dignity is not going to break your nail .” But as author Wayne Dyer states, “do you want to be right or do you want peace!”

Agree with @soo+19mwdilI, if you are on the RAed list, its most impossible to move internally. I was told that a hiring manager has to get an exception from the top so unless you are a rockstar who hiring manager really needs and can justify in a very short period (before your end date), you will have no luck. so you will be wasting time with false hope.

Keep in mind you can be hired back as a contractor after being RA'd.
Contractor money comes out of a different pot so it's not on IBM headcount.

Thank you everyone for responding quickly. Yes I did get RA’d. I didn’t realize they shut the door for applying internally. Geesh not feeling the love from IBM

Just to buck the trend and provide a counter view, I was made redundant from IBM (UK) in 2016 but did get offered an alternate position. The key was to find an in-demand role at the time which in my case was in the sales organisation who were untouched at the time. However, the exec sign-off process took months and I threw myself into finding an outside opportunity which eventually bore fruit. It was worth the effort, if nothing else, to be back in control and proudly announce to my useless FLM that I was leaving. I think the landscape is very different now and the scope and order of magnitude of down-sizing on a different scale so I suspect my rare opportunity will be even less likely than it was back then. As others have said, you need to drop and forget your day to day work and put every waking minute into both (a) securing a sideways move and (b) looking outside IBM for new employment. Cast your net wide and consider roles outside IT that might exploit your soft skills. Good luck!

Respecting your situation - look elsewhere as soon as possible.
IBM is not a career maker - certainly not a life maker.
Best regards.

You won’t get accepted once you’re on the RA list unless it got approved by an Exec. Sorry!

@OP+19mwdilI

You don't make it clear. Are you being laid off, and you have the thirty days to look for another job internally?

If that's your situation, then I'm afraid you have little chance of landing another job. IBM HR has designed the process that unless you get senior approval, you cannot get another job, despite what they might be telling you.
