Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

TODD- WHERE ARE MY BELONGINGS

How long can they legally hold on to your personal belongings when you are no longer an employee.
Not a word on how to get them back.
This is a disgrace. Do we need to get lawyers involved ?

I received this email the beginning of Feb. Perhaps you should contact surveys@humanresources.bnymellon.com if you didn't receive one.

We understand that your employment with the Bank of New York Mellon, or an affiliate, ended after the Company transitioned to Work from Home due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We are working to return personal belongs to those who have left the Company and need to know if you already have them, if you would like them to be returned or if you would like us to discard them appropriately.

Please note, in certain circumstances you may be required to return to the office, following our COVID-19 protocols, to pack your belongings. In all cases, please do not return to the office before receiving explicit instructions to do so.

Came here specifically to see if anyone had gotten anything.
I got the email a few weeks ago asking if I "had anything I wanted"... Well yeah I do.
Have heard nothing since then.

I actually have real valuable items I bought myself.. An expensive chair I just bought myself in November 2019... So it's basically brand new still... My two diplomas, an airpod set, logitech keyboard and mouse, wireless charger, etc etc etc.

All things that were worth it to me to buy myself to make me more comfortable and productive in the office 4 days a week pre covid... That I absolutely want back.

Apparently everyone that was let go was deemed high risk so no one is able to go to the office to get their things. HR is now asking managers to go to the office and pack things up for them. They should've thought about this.

I didn’t get all my personal belongings because the two id–ts that were responsible failed to include all my belongings. Typical behavior of the kind of people working in Bldg 2 - 7th FL.

They are sending emails on how and if you want it.
It appears they are doing it in tranches... some people have received the email some have not.
When you will be contacted is anyone’s guess.

My old manager just told me that she contacted MyHR and was told that they won’t have any specifics on retrieving personal belongings for another month or more.

How hard is it for you to talk to your old boss to make arrangements to get them. For me really hard because my report to was an a**hole. I could care less for the belongs I left behind, I just said I wanted my personal belongs returned just to make them have to pay to mail them to me.

laid off by the bank in March 2020. Yet to receive my belongings . There was a random email from HR a couple of banks asking whether I wanted my stuff back (?) Have not heard back since. Guess the HR folks handling this have been laid since then to fund the bonus pool of TH, BE and their incompetent cronies .

Typically what happens is that your belongings are gathered, packed into a box, and then shipped to you via FexEx or UPS. There is no "making arrangements to get them." The arrangement is that they are shipped to you. I'm sorry but you really have no other choice but to wait for your stuff to be shipped to you. It can take up to 90 days or longer for your stuff to be packed and sent to you.

Let this be a warning to everyone else who is still at BNYM, but perhaps you think that you are next out the door when the next round hits. Do not keep anything of personal value at your workspace at BNYM. If you think you are gonna get let go, than bring that stuff home now so that you don't have to be without it after you are let go.

How hard is it for you to talk to your old boss to make arrangements to get them. BTW, this would be a civil matter, not criminal, so they can legally hold on to them until a court rules otherwise.
