Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Is CVX an HSE company or an Energy compan?

75% of the posts on here are whiny posts about HSE and then the same people take up another 10% of the posts about diversity.
Last time I checked we are an energy company - trying really hard to make a profit while saddled with a bazillion HSE people telling us what to do.

Hey, wait a minute @7ryj. I am a Master PowerPoint wizard. No death by PowerPoint when I’m doing the presenting. I entertain the audience like Cecil B. De Mille does with Hollywood films for 30 minutes at a time. No one leaves the conference room or auditorium without a smile on their face after one of my small silver screen shows. Disparage all the many others who don’t take their presentation skills seriously. I know all the tricks of PowerPoint to teach and amuse my crowds. It’s not an easy feat with so many long-faced Chevroids these days.

A good portion of the company mostly produces hot air, power points, emails, and grandiose workplace posts.

@5bvi, It’s only your opinion, of course, but that tone of yours seems to be a little more like lecturing to me. I still think HSE, HR and Legal are given too much latitude and influence and have become a drain on the enterprise. Remember that everything in moderation is fine, and in excess no good. We’ve passed the point of balance for being an O&G business. Smaller companies and independents in our business, here in the US and in other countries don’t have such massive departments that “hobble” their fundamental business. But of course, all this I just said is my opinion. Hopefully most readers in this forum mostly agree with me over you.

The biggest incidents Chevron has had (spills, fires, explosions, capsizings) have had nothing to do with daily operating HSE and everything to do with engineered process safety or basic common sense.

It’s threads like this that lift the veil on the mindset in the O&G industry. It won’t penetrate the dullards, but it’s obvious that focusing on HSE allows companies to produce energy while maintaining value and reputation. I’m seeing allusions here to “HSE sympathizers,” that paychecks don’t rely on HSE, that HSE “hobbles potential,” that HSE tells people who think they know better “what to do,” etc. Y’all have some serious intellectual deficits if you’ve bought into the fantasy that a serious O&G producer can operate without keeping an eye on environment, health and safety. I’ve been laid off and, yes, this topic is relevant to the layoff theme of this website. Lost value will lead to more layoffs. If that’s not obvious, well keep drinking the koolaid.

The layoffs are behind us for now, dumba$$es. Nothing left to discuss about layoffs for a year or two. Pull your head out of your a$$.

@2eel+ and @3mfr, I agree 100% on that too. This is no longer a layoffs board but a site for immature employees to whine and complain like little children. Not good for much else.

Between HSE, HR and Legal, our enterprise is under great strain to be a strong O&G company. If only the shackles of these 3 departments can be loosened somewhat, our profits would soar high. But it seems to me, Chevron allows these 3 to grow and hobble our potential.

To the people constantly whining about the posts not about layoffs all the time: It’s a free anonymous whining site and people will post about what they want to post. Get over it.

HSE has poor leadership internally and no support outside the function. It has become a dumping ground for poor performers, sidelined from operations, including the VP.

Is this a website about Layoffs? The top of this webpage reads:
"Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs"
Why are employees posting here like it is a chat room to air their complaints and issues?

“HSE telling us what to do?” Please give us all a break. 1) HSE is disregarded with end runs and rationalizations or outright dismissals and 2) HSE may not make help the company “make a profit” which is highly debatable, but can help prevent catastrophic losses resulting for ignorant practices. withdraw your head from where it is and see daylight.

The VP claims they renamed HES to HSE to be more aligned with Industry. But as someone new from the merger this org seems more like he renamed it to SHE...if you know what I mean.

I do think the Noble people are making a point. I jumped Chevron D&C back in the day the current VP HSE was over D&C and I went to Noble. I just could not stand the Narcissistic behavior and how he was making selections. Well, I am back in the frying pan with the merger and his damage is apparent in D&C and now you can see it in the HSE organization. There is nothing honorable about this man.

Oh look, it’s the weekly HSE rant to complain about the function. Let’s move on people. Get to work and make it happen.

D&C s—s too. There. It's an energy company that also drills wells. Well... maybe not? Back to your regularly scheduled HSE rants on the agenda...

Yeah....HSE was HES. That was back in the olden days when HES would work to find a solution to allow Chevron to produce oil and gas.

C'mon man........Chevron wouldn't exist if it wasn't for HSE. They are the ones that make it all possible. They are the reason why you get a paycheck.
