@OP, If you're looking for work, Ask this same question on this site to all the other companies you are looking at for work and you will get the same answers that you got here about NOV....simple as that!

Responses have not been favorable. Most people are saying avoid at all costs.

I brought to my manager’s attention we were out of compliance with NOV - and subsequently leaned SEC - revenue recognition policy.

I was told I would no longer have a position at this particular business unit, but would be allowed to look elsewhere within NOV.

That same manager lied to HR and told this HR personnel that I hated working there. Which is beyond false, if false had levels.

I also watched as previous managers just let that happen and didn’t stand up for me. In what I thought was the best business unit within NOV.

That being said there was someone who cost the business unit millions from every aspect imaginable and completely failed upwards repeatedly.

I then went to another business unit. Was asked one time to figure out a way to not report expenses so an already failing location would not look worse.

Didn’t.

Was laid off before I could be asked again.

To 7xpy, are you saying NOV has upper management personnel with only basket weaving degrees? That does not surprise me.

Nov s—s like S**T. Bad management bad supervisor. And some lazy people that are kiss a– and they keep them and let the good one go with many years in there. get the point

I might be biased but I think it's one of the best companies to work for. There is absolutely no other reputable company that would hire a gossip loving, segway riding, kickball chanting, ex-maller-baller that will throw his closest colleagues and employees under the bus....for that I thank them! I am so grateful to work among fools.

In my opinion the best example for not coming to us at NOV is the president of Completion, he is the biggest ego driven bumb a– you could meet. He has demotivated or driven off all of the good management we had, it’s almost like he is trying to make company dumber.

Exactly! To secure my VP or Managerial position, I wouldn't hire anyone smarter or more qualified than I am. I would even deprive her/him of any opportunity or information that would let them outshine me, expose my incompetency, or reveal the source of my half-knowledge.

NOV is one of the few companies who hire VPs and Directors who come from non-accredited institutions. What does that tell you?

If HR told you that it must have been a little Dwarf Dudd. He doesn’t like to put to much effort into real work so throwing out things like no relocation expenses without putting real work & thought into it doesn’t surprise anyone. What he does put a lot of work into is his obsession with his Canadian BFF. You can find him on that side of the building most of the time stalking his buddy making sure lunches are devoted to only him. He likes to blame millennials for everything and is a giant lying piece OS.

I tried to apply over a year ago. Since I was out of state, I was told by HR to there would be no relocation assistance and to just forget about even applying.

Some deluded individual on this site. NOV is a train wreck and toxic organisation. If you’re face fits or you’re favourite word is ‘yes’ you will fit right in. But caution, if you have your own views and not afraid to express them, find something else to do as it will end in tears at NOV

It’s a great place to work. I kept my corner office when I was the only person demoted.

I enjoyed my time with them.
Met some great guys and had some amazing adventures.
I left because I could not afford to be sitting in the house as the work dried up.

If the work was there I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Like most jobs, it's what you make it.

I take offense to the last post. I single handedly repair all issues with my Segway, by hand no less. I have worked outside my undeserved corner office many times. I was a secret intelligence officer out of G-Town College, I was a security galleria guard and I used to motivate people with military chants before our kickball tournaments. So spare me your lecture on not knowing how to work. Gossip doesn't come to you....you have to go get it. And I have done my job magnificently. This TIMe I will not stay quiet.

LOL...You come to a Layoff site and want "honest opinions" of a company? Most people on here giving reviews are sad pathetic losers from the tower. Most still work at the tower because they can't find a job to suit their wants and needs. They have never worked out in the real world, using their hands to build anything, getting dirty and seeing the accomplishment they made. They have no idea what it's like to work for a living (outside their little cubicle) They think they can run a company better than anyone else, yet they have no experience!

Just hoping on redundancy now and move on but I'm afraid NOV will pull out of the UK leaving debts and a lot of workers all looking for work

When you have Dudds that run HR, when you have Pepsi Head Turtle Looking Corporate Attorneys messing w HR personnel, when you have Shopping center security guards running sales and when elves are the leaders....makes this a horrible place to work. Don’t get on a sinking boat.

Top leaders don’t have passion and do not inspire anyone. They have some really bad mid-level managers. HR treats you like the enemy. If it’s the only choice you have, you have to survive. Always be a yes-man at NOV. Different thoughts are pushed out quickly. Stay away from a Segway rider, he will be your best friend at first.

Avoid

I spent 30 years at NOV and was pushed out of a senior position, in hindsight, best thing that happened as it makes you realise most other large companies actually value their employees and don’t just talk about it!

If you have another choice, take it

It's great if you want to grind away doing the same thing for your entire time of employment, without a raise or maybe a raise that barely counts as cost of living increase.
