Thread regarding IBM layoffs

IBM has more bands than Juicy J at a strip club

IBM has 11 management layers, plus 2-3 non-management layers (not sure about the latter).

If all people on earth are connected, on average, by six degrees of separation, how can an organization have almost 2x more layers and expect to be more "connected" than average humans walking down the street?

The biggest issue is middle management. From Band E to Band B - these execs are mostly useless.

IBM bands:

A - CEO
AA
B
C
D
E
10
9
8
7
6

IBM = Itsa been miserable. Picking up workload from multiple people who were resourced. Bonus plan cancelled. Mistake after mistake by management. Bullies. No integrity. No understanding of what the “trench workers” are doing...the life blood of IBM. I LEFT!!! Sooooooo happy I am out of the S$&T SHOW.

Isn't AK already pulling a Gerstner?

Stop talking about Gerstner, please!! That was long enough ago that IBM was a totally different company (according to the same people who bring up Gerstner non-stop), the economy is different, the political and social climate is different, and technology business is different. If you think AK is going to pull a Gerstner, you're part of the problem. Get with the times!

The bureaucracy and hypocrisy of the chains of command, ugly beast ... invented to separate with glass the fearful and lazy official from the crowd of the people ... has not yet found peace in the oblivion of a past .. certainly the young and far-sighted AK will take care of it .. Lol

In the past, I've seen managers with 200 or more souls reporting back to them, because those managers were scarred and had to be taken out of entropy or madness. In a militarized structure like "small" blue that passes itself off as modern and agile but uses the methods of a Cold War barracks, when there is flattening it will always be too late as well as economic and fair.

Yes, definitely too many Directors and VPs... it looks like every year there are more of them, and less billable consultants to pay for their uselessness...

Should have 1 manager for each person. Wait does that mean manager yourself. Who would have thought. THINK.

Never heard of Band E and also pretty sure that AA is higher than A. Also, believe it or not, there are bands lower than 6, that's just the typical entry point for a new college grad.

What’s old is new again When Gerstner came in, he cut 13 layers of management down to 7 looks like AK has to do the same thing
