Possible leases ending in SJC why not use LWR

Rumor about leases ending in SJC makes ya wonder why cisco doesn't move the gear to somewhere cheaper like LWR. I've heard that LWR has the cheapest sq ft cost and cheapest power cost. Why doesn't Cisco utilize the only campus they actually own. With most people working from home wouldn't a cheap CoLo make sense?

Exit LWR then use the savings to continue in SJC and Cisco will save money in equipment moving expenses plus employee relocation costs.

Relocation costs are nothing compared to the higher costs of the Bay area on an on-going basis. The ROI for relocating to RTP is 6-9 months.

Better yet, lay off the SJC workers and open jobs in RTP and let the laid off workers know about the new positions. You can waive the six month no-rehire policy in return for the severance package and you don't have to pay to relocate them. They did that to members of my team who were in SJC back in '08. About half the team came to RTP without relo pay or their severance package, or so they told the RTP team.

Maybe if Cisco converts SJC into Bee Elle Emm site, the world will be a perfect place again?

Ever heard of RTP? If they're only looking for cost of power/sq ft., RTP is a pretty good deal for them.

Cisco is already a Cloud company. With Cloud computing you don't need a CoLo.

Equinix buys Cisco routers and outsources them.

You can work from home with true Cloud. With CoLo, we had to go there occasionally to replace hard drives, server, cable, etc.

Cloud is someone else's server.

Santa Clara, CA has some pretty low electric costs.

  1. compared to countries with geothermal production, Santa Clara is very high. ( Hint: take Bitcoin mine there (FinTech))
  1. HOWEVER, Compared to nearby Milpatis or San Jose, CA, Santa Clara has amazingly low electric prices.

Don't know if it's true, but a manager once told us (at a luncheon) that Cisco prefers to lease in order to curtail lawsuits. In other words don't sue us, sue our landlord.

And there have been plenty of people hurt in the parking lots, labs, bagel accidents, falling, etc, etc.
