Look at our right right, look at your left

I went to school in a competitive program and at orientation a prof told us:
“Look at your right, look at your left, one of you won’t be here at the end of the semester”. 30% would fail the class.

It feels we are about to go through the the gauntlet again. My supervisor let slip that he’s already preparing his list, not even sharp elbows would make up for the downward pressure this this cycle. Ranking is going to s—. And campus will take the brunt of it. Exploration, Research, and UIS will take a big hit, again.

What’s the point anymore? Even if I make it, more work in this awful environment. For the first time in 15 years I feel the bottom hasn’t fallen off and I don’t feel safe.

Time to look for jobs for real. It’s about to get crowded at the door.

You must not have gone to the elite of elite schools because those are basically pass/fail. You can pretty much sleepwalk your way to graduation just for getting in, and it's been like that at all of them for at least a century.

They monitor everything. Your keystrokes, your mouse movements, read your emails, watch you on your lap top cameras, track where you go using your cell phones, track your movements in and out of the gates at the Palace, track your movements in and out of buildings, read your text messages, talk to your peers, your peers snitch on you, they listen to your phone calls, they listen to your conversations at lunch.

Those same words were spoken at a team meeting after the big “let go”. The Manager is as incompetent as can be but... because he can easily charm his way, he gets his way with his female boss. He was so proud of “letting go” those that he felt just didn’t fill the role. Just a week ago he asked if I had seen one of those that he “let go”. He look dumbfounded when I reminded him that he had let that person go. I watched as he walked back to his office scrambling thru paperwork. Did he turn in the wrong list? I wouldn’t be surprised, he’s incompetent thru and thru. He doesn’t talk to anyone unless he’s kissing a** to climb the ladder. Good luck chump.

Lee “iron @$$” Raymond said something similar at an employee announcement shortly after the merger too. It’s just been enough time for people to forget.
