Day 1 Experiences at Pembina Pipeline Corporation?

Lot's of talk about leaving the company. Was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience as I did. Day 1: went to the 40th floor at head office and had a coffee and an overview of the company which went well and was welcoming. I was then taken to my office floor in Calgary to meet with my manager. Here is where things went bad. 1) My Manager was walking into a meeting. Shook my hand and had to jet off. No scheduled intro time 2) HR took me to my cubicle that a) did not have my name on it b) did not have a working phone c) did not have a laptop or even a profile created within the Pembina system d) no team or company literature or welcome package 3) Was not introduced to colleagues and stakeholders within the building or even on my floor 4) there was no e-mail sent out to stakeholders about the new hire. I had to send out myself 5) I had to go and find another fellow team member to ask him for binders of reading material so I could occupy myself for the day. I then had to go to a break-out room to make calls to field colleagues. The next day, a guy from the Pembina "Tech Bar " arrived to get things rolling at the cubicle and mocked the on-boarding process and said this happens all the time. My advice to any future hires at Pembina: Bring your own personal laptop, connect to the internal PPC-CORP wireless (you may have to ask multiple people how to do this), and get a colleague to e-mail you documents and information to review at your personal e-mail. Also, locate a breakout room where you can use a local phone vs. your mobile for any long distance calls. Yes, this is a multi-billion dollar publicly traded company and this is how they enable new hires. Take a guess how most of their other internal processes and interactions go to this day.

Wow. This post was almost identical to my first week at Pembina back in 2014. You really were left to your own devices (pun intended). I definitely felt like an outsider that first week and honestly wanted to walk away (coming from a producer who had a polished and welcoming on-boarding process). In an ironic twist (per the post below), Sauve was my HR rep. She did not participate in my interview process and I never heard from her until one month in to my tenure Pembina for a standard "1 month check-in meeting" (which was re-scheduled once or maybe twice). The next day I saw her on my floor and she walked past me with a "don't even look or talk to me" face. Nice. I unfortunately had to deal with her again a few years later and communicating with Michele one-on-one under circumstances that do not benefit the company is a dehumanizing experience. She goes out of her way to bully and intimidate you (I could tell she gets off on the whole power thing). However, in a group setting she is very different person. Charming, engaging, seemingly invested in you. Which are all traits of a narcissist and manipulator. If management or persons of power were in that meeting, that behaviour is dialed up. I know someone who called her out in a meeting and she walked out like a child. Ironically that person is no longer employed at Pembina hah. Interacting with her is always some perverted power struggle. Watch your back. (By the way, I noticed that posts about her are being deleted. So I've copied this can will re-post if necessary). Bullies need to be called out.

The first working day that you described is normal. Usually you will get you laptop working and connected to the network at the third day. Don't expect much help from Human Resources, they are good at laying off people but not at helping and supporting employees. Sauve is the most difficult.
Get used to introduce yourself to the rest of the team because nobody will do it for you. Ask where you can get your office supplies because you won't get any support.

Good luck anyway! You will really need it at Pembina
