Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Hunger games have begun

A manager in another department who happens to be an old buddy told me that supervisors and managers have already been told to start preparing the list of people to cut during this PADP session. The process is going to be a farce. They are not looking at perceived accomplishments for the year but also other metrics - how frequently is a person working remotely (remote is bad), what percentage of your online time shows away/inactive, what is your keystroke volume.
The advice he gave me- show up in person at the campus everyday, make sure your department head sees your face, s— up to everyone that is going to be in your ranking discussion, keep long hours, make sure you look busy at work (keep the Skype IM green or red and keep typing away!)

@1zat+1a1eQpKX Outlook/Exchange has security rules that allows supvs to see their direct reports' inboxes and calendars. IM's are also recorded and could be reviewed by supvs. Remember that everything that we write/author within company time is owned by EM and this does not violate privacy laws.

some of the teams are falling on their faces with exhaustion because there are areas of the market that have gone crazy with demand. may be hard to believe but it is true. at the verge of burning out and you just state "what work"? truly disgusting.

its one thing to have contempt for DW or TG, completely another to kick your colleagues further into the mud by hogging headcount and not doing sh–. f— you from the bottom of my heart.

What work is there to do? Should I spend the time prepping my resume or just spending my time doing self learning with the webcats?

"I know that our managers and supervisors have FULL access to our Outlook inboxes" —

unless something changed that's just a flat out lie. While supervisors can request your web browsing history it's much more effort than a button click and requires an HR case be opened.

Who cares if they can see your inbox. These comments are all a distraction. The real story is 8% PIP is the new norm to support moving North American jobs offshore. The days of a career with ExxonMobil are over. Start looking for a new job before they pick you to be fired.

It wasn’t keystrokes, they saw a drop in use of licenses of key packages (eg. Petrel for geos).
Never mind they put everything on hold, they expected people to do busy work regardless of why.
Maybe need a monkey picking seismic lines or at least check out licenses of major apps multiple times a day.

I know that our managers and supervisors have FULL access to our Outlook inboxes, so if your boss is into you, he/she can simply look at your email and judge how productive you are. Okay, now you know! What I am not sure if we have software pushed into our GME machines that spy on our activities. I did some research on this, and indeed - there's a bunch of these kinds of enterprise software out there, with full blown analytics and some with ability for managers to see what we're doing at any time, without our knowing. I know that at my brother's firm, all of them know they are monitored with full consent, part of their WFH agreement. I know that our leadership team are not that dumb to know all these!

Time to get out of this place!!! Are we in prison or something? I can’t stomach another PDS and KO feedback if I’m already on the list to be pipd. Why waste time? Mgrs should just tell the people to leave instead of wasting time

A troll posts something heard from a "good friend" and all of you people bite hook line and sinker. At least 80% of what is posted here is from trolls or otherwise bogus. People, grow up. Use some common sense.

Notice an uptick in “optional” face to face meetings. This is another gimmick to see how much you value your job. After all, if you can show up for one meeting then you can show up daily. Right?

I just put a heavy shampoo bottle on my keyboard and worked on my own job search and courses. Did it for six months and then got job offers and quit.

They monitor everything. Your keystrokes, your mouse movements, read your emails, watch you on your lap top cameras, track where you go using your cell phones, track your movements in and out of the gates at the Palace, track your movements in and out of buildings, read your text messages, talk to your peers, your peers snitch on you, they listen to your phone calls, they listen to your conversations at lunch.

These posts are great. It reminds me of my Catholic school days in 60s and 70s where if we got in trouble in the classroom we had to write out our times tables 10x. When handed back to the nun she would tear it up without reading it and scold us again to get in line and smarten up. Maybe I'll put my keyboard in front of the cat food bowls so my 3 cats have to step on it to get food and water. Since we are all best and brightest we can invent many ways around that metric instead.

Just like in the Simpsons with Bart and the chalk board at the end of school, I think ya'll should type "uncle Darren is my savior" over and over again for the last hour of each day. I think this should go a long way for upcoming hunger games!

10-20 minutes won’t cut it. Remember XOM hires the best and brightest. So, at least 1 hour of typing nonsense.

So I should spend at least 10-20 minutes of my day typing nonsense nonstop on my keyboard so that my keystroke is extra high? I can do that.

When they rushed to repopulate the campus last June, the main driver was management saw a drop in keystrokes when people were remote. So, I know keystrokes are measured. Now, I am not sure if they are used to make a decision about PIP.
