Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Why many jobs are required to be from C & CS business unit?

If someone looking for internal change, why there are many jobs Posted with the requirements of candidates from Cloud & Cognitive department. If someone from systems, gbs wants to go into C & CS why it's hard to do so?

"Systems and GBS still have some shred of credibility "

Agree with Systems. GBS.... yes, but 20 years ago. Today,.hybrid systems, distributed everything, mix of vendors is a norm - good for getting services from vanilla SIs not IBM`s service arm.

The question is, why would you want to go to C&CS? At least Systems and GBS still have some shred of credibility in their respective markets.

They will also put detailed job specifications like this if the candidate is needing a work visa.

Cloud and Cognitive was only yesterday the whole future of IBM. Now they are laying off hundreds. So is there a new future?

I was RA'd in Australia as part of shutting down of Global Markets. After few months found another job and, I tell you, I'm glad I can now look at IBM from outside. I'm senior technical type but some sales and sales management folks found new jobs even faster. Its not pleasant at all when you are looking but wow, I am much happier now. I have moved departments before many times but now is different... not.much left, relatively speaking. So, why bother.looking internally... other than tactical. Good luck

I learned last week that there is a general rule that you have to first try to hire within your BU. If you don't get a successful candidate then you can expand to other BUs, and eventually (possibly) to an external hire.

And as I write that, I realize that it doesn't so much answer the question as restate it...

Sometimes internal posted are slanted for a specific person or group that best fits who they want. In other terms.. they already know who they are hiring and the internal posting is a technicality they have to do if it's not a straight transfer

Because they want to get rid of the old and bring in young college kids. Not letting you change divisions is all part of the way for them to deny the old without being obvious on how.

Seeing how bad cloud is doing, why would anyone even consider going?
