Delivering the vaccines is a difficult job. I'm not sure which vaccine Sam's Club is administering, but each of the 3 available vaccines presents its own challenges. They have to be stored properly, appointments have to be scheduled, and the doses have to be mixed and administered in a timely manner because their shelf life is short and the time clock is ticking once removed from the refrigerator. Then they have to be billed to insurance, and finally all the government reporting begins. You have to report how many doses you have in stock from each manufacturer, how many you gave, who you gave them to, and who administered them. You then have to report each patient's dose to the state registry. The process is time consuming by itself, and I'm sure the id–ts in Bentonville have found a way to make it even more difficult.
None of the above even begins to address all of the drama generated by the patients themselves regarding their eligibility or lack thereof to receive the vaccine, the scheduling of their shot, why they should be next in line, and what to do when patient's don't show up in time (or at all) for their scheduled appointment. After all, due to the shortage of vaccines we are mandated not to waste doses.
In their infinite wisdom, I'm sure the company received more doses than their staff can actually deliver in light of the fact that the few people working in the pharmacy still have to function as a full-service pharmacy complete with filling pr-scrip-ions in addition to operating a Covid immunization clinic.

I'm glad I work for an independent pharmacy. One, by the way, who has delivered more Covid shots than any other pharmacy group in the state besides Kroger. I can't imagine doing that for Sam's. Their management isn't smart enough to understand that all of the above requires adequate planning and staffing.
