I have a chance to change jobs but I hate to leave if I could be next in line for layoffs and severance. We usually have a major round or two this time of year so I was thinking to maybe wait it out. Still, I'd hate to waste a good job opportunity just to get stuck here if I'm not on the list. Can I even rely on severance remaining as it is right now?

Do not speak to your manager about your plans. If you are not close enough now for them to know you and where your mind is, don't. When I left the mode started to be "Why give them a package , let them quit"
- Ya kinda already missed the Q1 RIF cycle. But Q2 will come around soon enough.
- You should have a clarification session with your Manager. If they know you want to go, it may be possible to slide you in, even if your group does not have a planned impact. Thereby saving someone else in another group under your Director. No use in firing someone who doesn't want to go, and keeping someone who wants to leave anyway.
If you're waiting for another come one, come all package, like the one the just had that you missed... keep in mind the last time they had something on that scale was 2003. Sure there are RIF's all the time... but large scale company wide packages are few & far between... don't count on one showing up when "you want it".
You want to sacrifice your long term career for short term dollars?
I used the care act to move 100000 to myself and I got fired for using a dumpster.
I plan to repay myself In Three years and haha
I’m getting back a huge return as only 1/3 should have been taxed
Thanks Verizon !!!!
My ESOP thanks you !!!
Unfortunately we don't have a crystal ball about any future changes in the severance plan. If history repeats, any changes would be implemented at the beginning of the year. If the first quarter 2021 results tank and you are in an organization that is consistently targeted for RIFs, then you might want to hang around.
Yes. Your handout is on the way. Put your life on hold and wait for it. Get in line with all the other grovelers.
