Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Entitled members

Lately we’ve had members who feel they can treat employees like c-ap and think they can get away with it. At my club it seems to be prevalent lately and I can’t understand why. Sometimes I have to ignore the tone of their voice or the things they say to make me feel as if I’m pond scum. I try to get a tough skin but honestly, these people need a lesson in courtesy. If it wasn’t for people such as us they wouldn’t have a place to shop.

At my store, a person (doesn’t matter if you have a membership or not in this case lol), is absolutely allowed to shoplift. This is real talk. An employee recently WATCHED a woman gather a bunch of clothing, go to the bathroom, rip the tags off and throw them on the floor. She then piled on all of these new clothes right over top of her own clothes. The employee said something to her. She ignored them. Employee told the manager. Manager stops the woman at the door. It is obvious she is wearing layers upon layers of clothes she was shoplifting. He asks her if she paid. She says yes. He asks to see her receipt. She says no. She leaves. And there is absolutely NOTHING we can do about it. Clothing, groceries, household items, even flat screen tvs. There’s nothing we are permitted by home office to do about it. We just have to let them do whatever they want. WHATEVER THEY WANT.

Most of the the members at Sam’s treat associates like if they are the slaves, back in the 1800s, then they go and complain to the GM about the associate so they can get a gift card...

Some of my coworkers especially the older ones are veterans from in the military. They are used to taking crud from loud people. They have been trained. We could use a U-Learn to help us deal with that kind of stuff. Calling a manager rewards the holes with a stupid gift card. Managers probably will still get called, but I saw an old timer get yelled at right in his face. He didn't flinch. He repeated what the policy was and walked away. Wish he didn't have to leave.

I'm nice to members until they start being extremely rude then I give them s*** back. Don't care if they go cry an complain to management. Been with the company almost 9 years. Sick of some of the members coming in and treating us the way they do just cause we work in retail and they think they are better than us.

home office is partly to blame. they don't respect the people at club/store level and will ALWAYS take the side of the member because they're afraid to lose a dollar.
Consumers know that if a company doesn't respect their employees they don't have to either.
most people that treat associates rudely do it because it gives them a feeling of superiority & they know that they can get away with it.
if home office cared anything about its employees, they'd pull memberships to those that were abusive & rude to workers.

Now that they have the stimulus money it makes them feel bigger than rich.

It's true some members are rude, and so are associates. If there were no member's there would be no Sam's Club. So in order to get paid and pay our bills we have to take the rude member's actions as well as work with the rude associates.

The bottom line if you cause a issue with them they wii call corporate. Then they do get what they want and you are in trouble. Please remember not everyone that works at Sam’s is dumber that dirt. Lot did graduate for college or were high still workers before Sam’s Club. This is a retirement job for some or people just want to get out to work some.

Well the truth is, they ARE entitled. That’s why they are members and you are merely a temporary inconvenience to help get them what they want.

  • members who feel they can treat employees like c-ap and think they can get away with it..

This is because they CAN get away with it. This is the new world norm; get used to it. As long as you are in a low paid job, especially in retail, you WILL be treated like scum. Like it or not, you are on the bottom of the labor heap and will be treated as such. OR you can work to improve your education and skill set at pull yourself out of the septic tank. But I suspect you will not do that. You’ll just continue to drift by at the bottom tank and complain.

I'm a vendor who gets mistaken for an associate multiple times a day. I have nothing but respect for you for putting up with customers/members daily. Not sure why they treat you like c-ap, but I can confirm that it's a thing.
