Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Why is an "employee" town hall so secret?

I'm an experienced hire. I've worked at a few oil companies, even a couple other majors. This is the only place where when the ceo speaks its not scheduled or encouraged to watch or attend.

Whats the deal?

Why can't he face an unscreened crowd of his own employees? It's like getting messages from the wizard of Oz.

They literally explained, in the video and in every other time they’ve done this, that it’s for legal reasons. The SEC has rules about how all of this works and I’d rather the company does not pay SEC fines. It’s due to information legally being required to be available to all investors, not just employees, and examined and submitted to the SEC in the proper amount of time. Applies to every public company. The other option is he takes no questions and presents no new material and we live stream it. That would be pretty boring and redundant.

The problem with DW is that he has an old school thinking for a new world without the financial means or company performance to back him up. In short- his mouth is writing checks that his brains can’t cash- but not to worry. The checks from the company to his account can cash.

You think that was the height of stupidity? How about the mandatory performance assessment training with the disclaimer that 90% of those that completed (I didnt say given the option nor taking the PIL mid-PIP) the PIP passed

When one is working at other oil companies, you always thought highly of the #1 company by market cap and revenues and felt that one had achieved something by joining as an experienced hire. Only when inside, one realizes what a $toop-id place this is! The height of $toop-idity was the Layoffs disguised in the form of PIP.

Workers bees should not know what is in the big brain of the ex executive management class. He doesn’t want to have lie more than necessary and if everyone is tuning in then they will hear the truth that troublesome times still abound and there is no good confidence things will ever return the glory days.

The more that tune in means the lower the morale sinks.

Haha you know why - it’s a bad place. People aren’t saying this for no reason. This is another example, symptom of a toxic culture. Get some!
