I used to be this company's biggest advocate but I've stopped recommending it to people as a good place to work. If I know they're looking for something transitional then fine, but long term? It's been a long time since joining here was a good career move and I tell them that. I don't like the fact this is true but I can't change it.

One person thinks? More like everyone knows nepotism is toxic within IBM.
Where do people like you come from? The gutter obviously.
"I wonder if that means there is too much nepotism no?"
No. It means one person thinks he or she lost something because a manager chose someone else. One complainer, one complaint, stated too often. We should be talking about things that affect all of us.
"Every thread has the same person screaming about nepotism"
I wonder if that means there is too much nepotism no?
Every thread has the same person screaming about nepotism.
It's not all bad. You can still refer the bean counters, brown nosers and box checkers.
IMO
The nepotism run amok blocking career advancement is the worst part.
Watching managers hiring then promoting spouses is disgraceful.
Please!
Implement an Anti-Nepotism Policy
It's no FAANG, but there are a lot worse places out there
Friends don't let friend work for IBM.
Most of us didn't wind up at IBM by choice. It's almost like every fortune 500 company gives its dying IT / Cloud c-ap to IBM to let them do the dirty work. That's how I got into IBM 7 years ago and they gutted 75% of the people I worked with. But staying was my choice and it was a bad move in the long run.
No one actually working in good companies in tech industry wants to join ibm anyway but good that you are spreading the truth
I would recommend looking at companies with the best financial prospects.
A growing company would more likely treat the employees better.
Sadly, IBM has been in the shrinking mode for many years.
Why get on a sinking ship?
I too have told several interns when they asked me about working at IBM that they may want to consider some of their other choices. I hate doing that, in fact I used to tell friends that they should join IBM but that was back in the 90s and early 2000s.
Everyone that has not taken a job with IBM are totally happy and glad they are where they are.
It is a sad fact that we need to do this
