Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Why am I not worried about latest layoff rumours?

Rumours of the upcoming layoffs are not worrying me at all because I wouldn't mind getting laid off. I’ve been in a kind of depressed mood lately because I don’t think my commitment to this company has paid off at all. I have a feeling that especially since the beginning of this year I am just wasting time working for this company. All my friends / former colleagues who have left here have made big things in other companies, while I am stagnant here in every way.

You should take better heed.

At 20 your ok

At 30 your at risk

At 40 you're lucky to still be there

At 50 your like WTF?

Choose wisely.

It's called "Opportunity Cost", and you are choosing to make the choice to ignore it.

You are are assuming similar past LR payout levels will continue.

You are assuming future, currently in demand positions available at other employers will be there timed to align with your future LR payment you are waiting for.

You are assuming an older LR "You" will be in as much demand as current. Age is one of your biggest advantages.

Will the "standard SEC" disclaimer apply to future layoff payout cycles:

SEC: "Past performance is no guarantee of future results".

Future Layoffs? " "Past LR payout levels are no guarantee of future LR payout expectations".

I have recently taken to walking around with a pen in by shirt pocket.

Where do I sign?

Getting laid off was the most lucrative windfall I've ever received in life.

Somehow I survived the chopping block for ages even though I didn't really do anything at Cisco except collect a paycheck and pad my accounts. Being a debt free minimalist I had a "meh" attitude about the whole company while my colleagues with zero gag reflex kept puckering up to people who couldn't stand them.

What did I get for my efforts? Cisco came up to me and said "here, we'll give you this pile of money if you walk away". Cha-ching!

I pocketed the whole thing while living off unemployment for awhile. Now I have a job that pays way more and where I actually enjoy showing up every day. Funny that.

I still come on this website for the laughs. Still the same, all of the wannabe tuff guys who know how to talk a big game but start shivering in their boots once the rumor mill goes into overdrive.

Just relax and not stress so much. Do what you can and collect your paycheck and look for a new job in the meantime. Make them lay you off or fire you. There is no stigma to being forced out anymore because of so much corruption. Just don't leave with nothing. If it is that bad, see a doctor and have them write you a note to go on stress leave but don't leave without taking something from them.

Why would you stay around and wait for your destiny to be determined for you. Be proactive and take control of your career and your happiness. Life is too short.

Just leave! The opportunity cost of staying is bigger than you think. Call those friends, get some referrals and get your mojo back. My experienced $0.02.
