More and more promotions are going to people who don't even know how to perform their core jobs, not to mention anything beyond that. What they do know is how to kiss the behinds of anybody who is above them on the 'food chain.' This is ki----g our productivity. If hard work is not valued, then why even bother?

Its true. Most were D&I promos. Bypassed the normal promo process like they did during the petrotech realignment.
Instead of improving his own standing and skills to result in a better position in the company OP chooses to complain about others do can and do. Typical envy laden comment. Nothing more. Yawn...................
This is not something new. So, earn, save and go somewhere you are valued.
Are you talking about HR and the selections made last year which resulted in promotions?
OP what facts of underserved promos do you have?
ABU said no promotions in 2020 and ended up giving some under the table.
Just goes to show the ones that go on about trust the most cannot be trusted

I feel you OP but what can you do? Those who used to kIss behinds are now our managers (and some still kiss behinds) and theyll promote those who kiss their behinds because that's what they're used to.
But yes agreed, you can be completely not fluent in your day job but so long as you use buzz words, company jargon, join the latest chevron crusade on workplace, like a few posts on workplace, take credit for soneone elses hard work on workplace you'll be fine.
Whilst those who actually do the work will continue to do so and never the light of day ie a promo. But again.. What can you do? Just try and play the game and go home and drink a litre of acid to cleanse your soul of the buzz words you happened to vomit out
