Thread regarding Pembina Pipeline Corp layoffs

Pembina needs layoffs

Let's be honest here, we do have fat that needs to be cut. The only problem with this is the fact that the wrong people are being laid off every time and the fat remains. How many management layers do we really need, honestly? People who (as many have already pointed out) do barely anything other than delegate? Why are they still here? We have a solution for the company's problems, I just wish the leadership would see it as well.

There was a post below on this site about a PPL acquisition of IPL (project phoenix). Something to keep in mind before jumping ship? By the way, don't knock education over experience. There are plenty of inept managerial types that have 7+ letters behind their names.

The comment about going on leave in search for new employment is ballsy. I would imagine that if you took that route your fate would almost certainly be sealed upon a return if you did not find new employment. Taking the leave over the summer to get a new job, a tan with a few drinks in hand.. I don't agree with it personally but that is a legendary move if you make it work. I know someone who had to take disability leave at PPL and she said (her words) that our employer doesn't take health and wellness seriously, but Manulife did. She said they were supportive and that PPL has a poor reputation with the local Manulife case workers. The comment about PPLs insurance premiums being affected with multiple leaves of absences is true. Take that as you will!

very very rich? who's RSU's you holding? no one is getting rich now, and frankly laying off managers ain't gonna solve anything. Why? so you have more worker bees reporting to poor managers that got their management certificates at Mt. Royal? laying off worker bees is easy and frankly they designed our jobs that way, because we are replaceable. How many Production accountants or Supply chain analysts would work at 80% of our wage? the managers say yes sir and I would like more of that brown pie. we don't. that's ok, I'm not promoted but I still have my wife and hairline - you can have your 2 EA's. last person who outlined the doctor note is frankly sound advice, I think I will do that.
and then I'll apply to IPL.

It is a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy. In my opinion, I don't believe our current leadership will address the toxic 40+ year old boys club culture or the rot with middle managers and supervisors because it has made most of them very, very rich.

My advice to anyone who feels they will be laid off is to not be afraid and go to your Doctor and obtain a note from them requesting one month off due to Covid/work stress, whatever. Send it to HR and ignore any tactics HR, the Nurse, or Management say to get you to keep working. Your Dr's word trumps all. At worst, you have 30 days to look for new employment while receiving full pay, at best you can potentially parlay it in to a short term disability leave while continuing your job search and receiving full pay. Return to work, and if you have found something give your two weeks, or wait it out for the severance package. I know two people personally who have done this at peer companies in the past year and they came out ahead. It has crossed my mind as well given everything going on. Engaging insurance on a potential leave will also cause Pembina's premiums to increase. Look out for yourselves, everyone.
