Curious to see in a few years when Apple opens their RTP campus how many Cisco Engineers jump ship. Cisco is going to have to find a way to be more competitive with pay or risk taking a big hit on talent.

Unlikely Apple is interested in hiring people from a walking dead company. Cisco stopped creating products decades ago. They just buy other companies and sell them for less. Cisco is great at buy high, sell low and layoff.

Recently, when I decided to change jobs in the RTP area, it took me two weeks to find a well compensated, high level, permanent, engineering position. The Triangle technical job market is on fire. Right now, it is better than it has ever been. If you aren't happy, now is a great time to find something new.
If you live in RTP you will only find Contractor Jobs available from companies that move in. They never hire permanent anymore. So good luck with your "18 month renewal"

I don't see Apple cannibalizing Cisco workers as much as Cisco workers hope they will. It's going to be more along the lines of people not wanting to interview w/ Cisco in favor of interviewing with Apple, especially given the technology focus on the new Apple site.
Luckily, I'm one of those basic company support roles that all companies require, so it's not a matter of supporting legacy products and atrophied skills making me more appealing to Apple than router engineers.

I know quite a few that made the jump about 8 years ago and are still there in the Maiden, NC location.
Long ago, when Cisco only hired the best, having Cisco on your resume signaled high talent and skill. Today Cisco on your resume is as valuable as Nortel on your resume.
If your skills are Cisco CLI and a bit of BGP and OSPF routing, good luck at Apple.
Typically tenure at Cisco has a direct correlation to skills. Cutthroat politicians and used car salesmen run the asylum.
Not likely that Apple will want stagnant, low skilled, Cisco lifers. Quality people with skills and ambition don't stay at Cisco for very long. They leave quickly.
I know a few SJC folks (not engineers) who made the jump to Apple. Most didn't last long.
Cisco isn't trying to attract talented engineers, we need cheap engineers to maintain legacy products. We have a big pipeline of engineers from India, China, and eastern Europe.
