I have been working in this company for a long time and there are fewer and fewer projects that inspire and stimulate me. If I were to list all the projects that were very boring and the ones I really enjoyed, there were many more that were neither inspiring nor stimulating at all. I hope it's different in your case...

This is not a company where anyone goes to be inspired or simulated.
This is a company where people try to collect a paycheck until they die or get surplussed trying.
Become your own boss.
Why do posters waste space and time sharing insecurities which have zero to do with layoffs. Surely there are social media outlets where you can commiserate over your angst about personal/professional growth. Better yet, go out with your coworkers and grab a beer.
This hits home for me. as an It / techdev / acronym dujour / person who writes code it's extremely frustrating to work on sh** project to upgrade system x from out of date software version y, 10 years after it was obsolete.
Then get told by leader ship to move to the hot projects which one can't because:
1) whoever is sponsoring the project is getting dinners or golf from contractor Dujour
2) you know too much about your current system to be releasable
3 ) we're giving the work to the lowest bid contactor, who when all is said and done will end up costing 2x what it would have been if we did it internally, but we believed the unrealistic cost tehy quoted us
step off then and let somebody else take your job.
It's a job.
A paycheck.
Insurance and a 401K.
Did you get paid for the non inspiring projects?
Did they ask your opinion?
Why didn't you quit to seek more "stimulating" work?
Jeez...what do you expect? You work, they pay.
How long is a "long time"?
