Just heard the IT department is management's next layoff target. Not sure how many but it looks like it will affect several regions.

IT is long gone with IBM. Tech M. Accenture, Amdocs etc. Most technical folks outsourced, left on their own or jumped ship into other orgs. Those left behind under Legg are mostly PM, some SE's and off shore folks. Probably not a whole lot left to cut.
Only a rumor! If anything, there are too many technicians in IT! Try starting there.

Very possible, but IT seems to take a hit annually! Could be only a rumor!
Jesus I hope not. Everything IT related in this company is a complete mess. I worked at Verizon and thought they were sh-----g the bed but Verizon looks like Google compared to ATT.
It jobs aren’t worth working anymore unless you like doing temp work and living on the edge.
Not gonna happen! IT is the medulla oblongata of any company and cannot function without it!

Once that is complete, they'll need less support for data centers, and less data centers. I see that as the source of layoffs/reassignments.

the "IT department"? Did you hear this rumor from 1983?
There will be another large outsourcing deal, the leadership sees great benefit here, so no layoffs, they will outsource and then in a year those firms will eliminate the employees, no severance, no black eye for AT&T, it is Stankey model!
According to Jon Summers only 40-45% of what remains of AT&T IT is currently staffed by employees. The rest are all those outsourcing vendors (accenture, IBM, Tech Mahindra, ...). Even he admits on calls now that they went too far. I am sure that is Jeremy Legg talking not Summers. He says the plan is investment in IT so we bring ratio of employees to 50-55% employee and 45-50% vendors. But then he also immediately says plan is to hire those employees in Israel and India.
IT was always a target - look who they sold to IBM, accenture, and outsourced to Tech Mehnidra.
Doubtful, although, there are way too many unqualified Project managers that T can do without!
Great...I really hope they offer legacy techs something since it's been too long. A lot of techs are waiting...
If this is true, then that means the HR lists sent to the managers are not giving them the numbers they want with the benefit reductions.
