Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

The entire corporate world has gone nuts with this hybrid work schedule. What is driving it after Covid is no longer the issue?

yea, this is the "modern world" and as a millennial , I make the rules. I need to stay at home to be able to take care of my family, smoke p-t and play video games. Any more questions?

Everyone misses the ‘benefit’ to Chevron! Mark my words, this hybrid schedule will bring about shared office space, you get a room with a desk, docking station and a monitor, two days a week, someone else uses the space the rest of the week. Perfect for HR and financial types who don’t need to interact with other people (I.e., ‘meetings’). Big cost savings to Chevron, maybe give up one of those leased buildings. Pull out of SR without having to move to Houston or (gasp!) Midland.

Employees in this industry do not know how great they have it. Most are so arrogant and really believe they are better than others.

Hahahahaha "spend time with my family" That's so sweet. Hey, sir/maam, I would like to work for you just make sure you give me plenty of time to "spend with my family" , lol, that's my No. 1 requirement. Also I would like to earn at least 50% more than anyone else in my field and have unlimited vacation and sick time as well as company subsidized health insurance and a fat annual bonus. Got all that? Sign me up! lmao!

Haha this thread is hilarious as are the down votes for anyone happy for a flexible schedule. For the folks that can’t stand spending time with their families, don’t worry, the hybrid schedule allows you to come to work everyday so feel free to wa-k off at your office desk versus the one you’ve set up in the guest bedroom!! Hahahaha.

Yeah, I'd like more "flexibility", lmao! I would like to be able to work my own hours, come and go when I please, and I'll show up if and whenever the heck I feel like it, will you hire me, please? ROTFLMAO!

Supposedly millennials will be renting four bed flophouses they can share during their Houston 2-day clock in.

They can then find another employer if they don’t like coming back to the office. What some people could do is just get a motel in Houston for a few days a week when they are working from the office. Then they can still work from their Austin home during the rest of the week. Problem solved.

I think those who sold their home in Houston and have been working from Austin, Key West, San Diego, Santa Fe, etc will object to the notion they need to show up in the office.

Covid is here. Did you know that?

Bottom line is whether Houston or San Ramon, many spent 2-3 hours per day in terrible traffic commuting and even before COVID, it would make sense to have T/Commuting for workers whose job work is suitable, and more importantly those that already have shown they have integrity and can be trusted to continue to add value. Since COVID, for large %, it's been shown while it's great to see warm bodies in office, the productivity from home can and should continue, perhaps not every day but a balance. Heck I remember the move from THP to 1500 LA street, offices to cubes, and the company line was - this will improve collaboration! No, for many it was a step down and led to more irritation! Thus, offices returned for many when 1400 Smith opened and 1500 changed a bit....

Meanwhile, India had its deadliest day with 4000 COVID deaths. Their vaccination rate is only 3%. But relax, it's just a hoax!

Wagies BEGGING to be put back in their 40 hour wage cage. Hilarious. I cant imagine why someone would complain about being given the option to work from home a couple days a week. We live in twilight zone.

Yea, I want a lot of things, a raise, a company car, bigger bonuses, work at home 2 hours a day like I've been doing and pretend that I'm actually working full time, but it doesn't mean I can have it, lol.

But why are CEOs catering to employees. All they have to say is get back to the office 4 days a week or you don’t have a job. There are plenty of highly qualified workers willing to commute for oil company wages. There must be some cost benefit to corporations. Just watch. They will get you in the office a few days a week and then gradually increase the number of days. You will be back to pre-covid work schedules before you know it. People can whine and cry all they want.

In my career it's been 50/50 with on-prem or remote TLs. I've excelled no matter what. It's a fair argument regarding the remoteness of your supervisor given that we've been doing this for years with the only difference being your home office does not include motivational posters and has a far worse internet pipe.

Heck, I had one TL that I never met in an official capacity other than at a work happy hour at The Whitehall's Part & Parcel bar! Nothing like a glass of red adult grape juice to solicit feedback and inside info!

Like the other posters have said what's the point on being in the office especially when many work with off shored teams anyway? No one says you can't come into the office if thats what you want to do. Chevron needs to offer hybrid to stay remotely competitive for talent if they even care about talent. Being in the oil industry people already avoid it and with the very frequent layoffs and instability they have to give some perks or no one will be left.

A lot of us don’t have our supervisors or team in the same city, country or even continent ! So how is coming into an office to sit on teams meetings any different than attending those same teams meetings from home?

People like the flexibility to be able to work unsupervised and to be able to F-off at their own discretion, and they have spoken, so by all means we must listen!!!

Have you noticed your CVX notebook getting slower and slower over the past year? There are keyloggers and other monitoring tools tracking your productivity. The id--ts will be found out and transferred to work under DP as covid distancing police because HES is CVX's version of the TSA.

People want flexibility and more time for families which is desperately needed in the modern world. Its been proven work can be done from home and the wasted commute time is removed. For those who want to want to work in the office you can go work in the office just don't force those who want to work from home in. In many cases when teams are in different cities and countries being in office to do video calls doesn't make sense.

I'd love to return to the office in so many ways, but it's going to be a logistical cluster eff trying to get to your desk on a daily basis. Once you get there you might as well stay there until the end of the day. It's like when you leave something in your car at the airport and have to weigh if it's worth going through airport security to again just to retrieve it.

Working from home gives me back 3hrs per day I can devote to actual work vs everything I do to get ready for, commute to, and ultimately arrive at work. (And then turn around and go home after 9hrs)
