Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Jewelry

Just wondering how other clubs handle their jewelry department since they got rid of the TL's and dedicated jewelry associates. When the change was made, the merchandisers were to be trained to handle jewelry calls. That certainly has not happened in our club. The department is a mess. Wrong information given to members regarding products, IGI cards are not given out with diamonds. Nobody knows how to do ring sizing, merchandise is missing when audits are done. Returns are a fiasco. Member service has gone down the drain in jewelry.

Absolute train wreak. It should have been kept a specialty department with its own staff.

Front line trained in jewelry and TBC? That's a train wreck waiting to happen. I would freak out if they allowed cashiers in jewelry....we already have had stuff missing from the inventory. We all would like to think we don't work with thieves, however I have seen more than one associate walked out for stealing.

Front End still handles Jewelry, MSL's, Member Specialist and most Frontline are crossed trained in Jewelry, Club Pickup and Tire and Battery.

The front end supervisors in our club are ignorant...they have never taken time to even learn jewelry. They clutter up the counters, knock over fragrance bottles in the cases, and just plain don't know what they are doing. They need a dedicated 40 hour a week person. Home Office, listen up, it is not working this way. In fact most of your changes are id--tic, let's get back to basics and put the member first. Management needs to grow a pair and stand up to these ridiculous ideas, which are probably dreamed up by 20 or 30 years olds.

Our club a merchandiser works jewelry. It’s a joke. She comes in at 4am and goes to jewelry. She is PT and should come in later to help members once the club opens. She piddles around acting like she is busy. Occasionally she works soft lines. If there is a small task to do in jewelry she will work without approval and no one says anything to her. She orchestrates it so she gets 40+ hours. Gross waste of manpower/hours.

There is no accountability when it comes to the jewelry department in our cub. One member told me she was looking for her favorite fragrance. We were out of stock and the id--t front end lead told her that the product was not made anymore. WHAT???? Eternity for Women, when I checked we had gotten it in. Sold her the one bottle and she was happy. Another save home office. Get real and reinstate a 40 hour a week dedicated jewelry associate.

The jewelry department at our club is a joke. Nobody wants to take responsibility to
put merchandise out so it sits in the safe for months on end . The only time it is important when our district manager comes in then they fix it until next time. The front end leads refuse to help with members and the merchandisers know nothing.

I flat out refused to go into Jewelry because of all the sketchy people that had there hands in the till & cases. I was not going to take the fall for missing money or merchandise. I would call for member service someone would always come. I had my own job to do that no one would help me with if I asked , they would laugh and walk away & go stand around and talk so they had the time to be in jewelry.

Who puts out the new merchandise that comes in? And then there is the new signs, which is a pain to make. First you have to locate an handheld, which is a problem daily at our club. Then you have to make an extra small signs in the SMART system, print to the copier, laminate, cut with paper cutter, use two sided tape to adhere signs to element. So who does all of this? Merchandisers? He-l half the time the jewelry sits in the cage up front for days before anyone even bothers to notice it is there.

Whether or not jewelry will be a thing of the past like photo, we still need to provide excellent member service. That is not happening in our club. You cannot have just anyone with their fingers in the jewelry dept. How can people work in an area they know absolutely nothing about? This is crazy. We size rings, however we have not done a special order for a year.

Our merchandisers as well as teamlead a do it, we have no issues with the department also
Since covid we don’t size rings it’s only the size that they come in

Jewelry is on the path of photo. Give it another year or two and it will be gone.

Our club is hurting the last associate who knew anything about the department just quit. Got tired of getting talked to about not doing their job as a merch, but was pulled away for every member who walked near Jewelry by front end leads and managers.
