Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Who'll do the work?

Between layoffs, firings, and attrition that's not being backfilled I'm starting to wonder who do they expect to do all the work around here. How many of us are doing multiple jobs as it is? How many are forced to pick up even more work on weekly bases? When will it be enough?

if you check the internal careers site or speak to hiring managers, nike is actually hiring a bunch of new people so there will be people to do the work. the common thread is laying off someone then hiring a backfill with modified responsibilities at a lower band, it's the company's way of reducing all the vps and directors. tbh nike lays off people every year in different quantities and hires replacements, it's like hr has to meet turnover quotas (i.e. amazon)

They'll find some new suckers who have no idea how good it used to be and won't expect much.

I'm glad that people having meltdowns about DEI are leaving. I don't want to work with you, here or in a future job.

As for OP. Bet some % of work is just fine by them on the backburner. They are happy enough to swamp whoever's left... but the reality is they don't need these things done as badly as they say.

@uqx wtf? How in the world does this relate to the OP? I share my preferred gender identity, and while I was born female and identify as female, I have co-workers who have a different identity from their birth. This simple change that took me 2 seconds to make signals to my peers that I honor and respect their preference and I am creating a safe space for them to share if they wish. You say in your post you support diversity, if that is true you might reflect on the tone of your post and the type of environment you are creating for individuals who are having a difficult time due their unconventional gender identity.

@uho...every time I see an email sig line where someone strangely shares their gender preference with the world I think to myself “Are there any other personal matters you feel like sharing with me that are 100% irrelevant to the conversation we need to have? Because this may shock you but when we’re talking about a work matter I’m not paying the slightest bit of attention to your gender, race, ethnic background, etc. I’m just trying to get my work done. So why on Earth do you feel the need to share your gender identify with me? What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?”

I’m not “anti-diversity” or “anti” anything else. Crazily I just subscribe to Dr. King’s message that we should see people by the content of their character rather than how they identify in some other form.

It feels like otherwise well-intentioned people don’t understand what Dr. King was getting at.

They'll hire Robots that engage in virtue signaling and use proper pronouns. Humans will be obsolete.
