Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Keeping promises: My resume just went online.

Last week I posted that if we are required to physically go back to the office a majority of the time my resume would go online within an hour of getting that news.

Promise kept. As of 10 minutes ago and for the first time in over a decade I am now officially a new job seeker on Ziprecruiter, Indeed and LinkedIn. As fate would have it I also found what appears to be a sweet opportunity with a large organization in Vancouver, WA. That position is 100% remote on a permanent basis and I’m genuinely excited to have submitted my resume today!

I thought I’d be upset about today’s announcement but the opposite is true. Although this may sound odd I feel like with today’s news Nike finally gave me a good reason to leave. It gave me the kick in the rear I needed to remind myself “I’m very good at what I do and another organization that better respects how I do my best work will be extremely happy to have me.”

I’m kind of giddy and excited to be back in the job market! And for the first time ever I’ll be in the national job market since I’m only applying for 100% remote jobs. I made a bet with my wife that it’ll take less than 2 months before I have an offer letter in my email. And I was hedging because I don’t think it’ll even take that long.

I haven’t even left Nike yet and it’s like a huge weight has already been lifted off my shoulders. Good days ahead!

Will be interesting to see if some of the amazing HR people who made up this policy will adhere to it themselves. Hey FM and BB you plan to leave CA and come back to Portland for 3 days a week in the office. Doubt it.

@1jse - Talent? You don’t need talent to have a job at Nike anymore, as long as you check a diversity box, you’re good. Cute that you think you have talent, naive millennial.

@1zza

The part that sucks is when you're interviewing and realize just how much you gave up, and how many lines you crossed, by sticking with Nike for so long. Even worse for some is the realization that your industry passed you by a long time ago while you were doing Nike busy work.

A good reminder. No matter how your lame management makes you feel or what they say, you have valuable and marketable job skills. It's easy to start to believe that, consistent with how your indifferent management treats you, that you have no value.

Same here. Brushing up my resume this weekend and will shop myself out. This year working from home was easily my best year. I discovered I do my best work at home and can’t imagine ever working in a office again. I understand why they want people back on campus but I can’t do it. For anyone interested there’s a good Reddit sub for professionals looking for remote jobs of all types. Lots of networking there and I’ve noticed recruiters from big companies are stalking that sub like hungry wolves. They post links to jobs at there companies and tell you to message them directly if you see something you like. Lots of people are landing good jobs that way. Best of luck to all!

@1fih, you don’t seem to understand that many of us have talent and marketable skills such that we don’t have to settle for just being “happy to have a job.” We have options.

Perhaps the issue is that you can’t relate. My condolences.

You all sound like a bunch of pu----s. Be glad you have a job and an easy one at that. You’re not saving lives, you’re making sh*t no one really needs. Lighten up and grow a pair.

I'm doing the same thing now.
In response to the focus on D&I - it's hard to really have a successful D&I initiative in the US when the company is based in one of the whitest cities in the United States......

I hope for your sake this job in Vancouver isn't at HP. They're not much better than Nike when it comes to di**ing workers around. But congrats on your decision. I made the same one a while back and have zero regrets other than staying on for a couple years too long.

For those of us that are no longer with the company, can you share what they communicated out about coming back to campus? Are WFH days over for everyone? Or just certain functions?

Good luck finding a job OP! Always be seeking, the quickest raise is always in a new position.

I wonder if NIKE is factoring these decisions into their reduction decisions. Will be funny if they lay off half a team, only for the rest to leave...

I just polished up my resume for the first time in 4 years. Looking for new opportunities is exciting.

Clearly, Nike decided it was more important to focus on DEI than listening to their employees.

OP, congratulations on making this decision. You and your family will be better off. If I may, I will add my name to your camp of people deciding to leave Nike. Done exactly as you have about 45 minutes ago.
