Thread regarding Ford layoffs

The problem is that as much as people want to think they can multi-task the human brain does not work that way. It does one thing at a time in slices.
All of this extra stuff that allows people to do other things while driving, results in people having more accidents and near misses. Labeling it hands-free does not resolve the root problem of the driver not focusing on driving. Oh but sure, we will solve that by making driver-less cars,,,,, yeah right.

Well if you are so concern about your personal data going up for sale to the highest bidder then you need to also throw away your cell phone as well as your Alexa / Google home devices to the nearest trash can. Apple and Google have been listening to you many years now and your cell phone alone is capturing much more personal info from you than your car will ever be able to do.

Ford needs to focus on building quality vehicles, which it seems to have trouble doing.

As much as I hate this world of in your face advertising, I don't see any problem with getting affiliate payments someone orders through one displayed on the infotainment system, or even just through it. We definitely should not be selling customer locations in real-time or even in aggregate since that's a serious violation of privacy, immoral and illegal in many jurisdictions. It is possible to perform geo-locality based advertising without sharing the customer location, but it takes some careful thinking around the solution and I don't expect that is approach is going to be common in the masses of young people who've become "developers" because they believe that's where the big, easy money is at. Much like the rush into: aero-space, law/legal, IT pre-dotcom, house flipping, bio-tech, etc.

We get an affiliate payment every time a vehicle owner orders something on amazon, buys an audiobook, and we can sell customers locations at any given time to drive amazon's ad selling.

Customers have zero idea how much of their data is being sold lol, and frankly who cares they'll never know.

If you haven't realized by now ford is just an assembly company, without paying vendors for software like carplay or alexa we don't have the software expertise to develop apps or an ecosystem any more advanced than smartphones that used buttons for everything on the screen.
