Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

No WFH? Are you going to start looking?

Email came out that we all have to return full time to the office.

Just curious, how many people plan to leave so they can work for a company that has a WFH or hybrid policy?

Anyone who thinks they can demand us to shut up about this is truly out of touch. Fact is that most people will return to the office on the prescribed date. If they liked being in the office before, they'll like it again. If they had their reasons for not liking it, they will continue to dislike it, as nothing will have been fixed. If they dislike it so much that they want to leave, they will if they can or they won't, and we'll have more to chat about here. Simple.

Honestly, everyone needs to stop their b*tching. I've been going into the office for quite a while, now. Yes, it was nice to work at home for a while, but it's work. They don't call it "happy hunky dory fun-time". You get paid, so do what they ask you to do. If you don't like it, find somewhere else that'll let you sit in your bathrobe in a meeting.

Many pine for the days of Bopping to the Beats in the cube all day, playing politics, gossiping, hanging out in the caf and the invigorating commutes.

My retirement plan including suing for long term exposure to mold and asbestos. Been keeping records and samples of carpet for years. Even retained printouts of requests to change carpet and fix hvac that were denied. Now that I have asthma it seems like I am on track for an early departure. Returning to a dusty office that hasn’t been clean will be a perfect trigger for my breathing and I anticipate hospital time. Truth aided by documentation.

I dont know what everyone is upset about. We have such beautiful modern workspaces which clearly show how much HON cares about our well being. I mean Tempe is so beautiful and modern that the two times we tried to sell it buyers just knew they were not going to be able to knock down such a beautiful facility (either that or they got trapped in an elevator or their feet wet in one of the always leaking bathrooms). I have been languishing under natural lighting at home which is so harsh, I long for the comforting buzz of the fluorescents, the soft plush feel of carpet made so well in the 80's beneath my feet, the way the lead paint flakes from the walls like so many falling snow flakes. Its inspiring to see that we invest in our facilities just like we do our products and people. Nothing inspires like a walk through the cube forests of Deer Valley, full of hope and ingenuity, or a walk through Engines skipping across and around the potholed parking lot. I cant wait for July!

I just can't wait to go back to the office so I can spend more "face time" with the people in Indiyer! It's going to be great! I'll be sitting in an unassigned seat occupied by who knows who the day prior, listening to people shouting around me who have nothing to do with what I do, and spraying their illnesses all over the place, COVID or otherwise. It's going to be great, I tell you!

Gee, I hope I am not exposed to someone with symptoms on a regular basis as I would have to quarantine at home for two weeks each time. Is anyone feeling feverish who would like to join me for lunch?

I negotiated severance when I refused to follow the WFH policy 18 months ago, brought back after exactly six months as a Contractor at 3x my former pay after things fell apart and most of my reports quit. As a contractor I am not given office space so I cannot go into the office. I love working for weak leadership that make bad decisions that benefit me personally.

The email said July 6 or 7 for 3+ days in office and September 7 for back to regular schedule. You know, right after two big exposure holiday events. You can apply for an exception for medical and childcare reasons which would be granted almost automatically. Other reasons are discretionary. Childcare reasons will eventually go away.

Aero in CLW has been bleeding talent already - guess they want more loss. As yes, I will leave if I am told I have to come in 40 hours a week. No problem and quickly lol.

I hate to bring down a good idea, but as far as trying to fake that you're in the office for a length of time, know that your company computer gets pinged regularly to provide your location. I've noticed the little red bullseye icon pop up from time to time in my system tray and disappear. If you hover over it with the mouse, it tells you that it's checking the location of the computer.

Be creative, but be careful!

Dang folks, use your heads.

When they demand everyone return, make sure you're in the office for the first week or two. While you're there, make sure your cube looks extra lived-in. Get a random set of house keys, and throw them on your desk. Put a jacket over the back of your chair.

Week three, go back to full time work from home. Easy.

I can't wait. I was tired of not wasting hours of my life on the freeway and risking injury in the process. Im also tired of not buying gas and not putting extra miles on my car. I'm glad I get to drive into a dilapidated site where I'll undoubtedly be exposed to COVID, so that I can call into all my team meetings from the office rather than my home. I feel this is just much better use of time and resources.

In all seriousness, the joke is on Karen and Mad dog; I'll just take the time I'm wasting sitting in traffic and yank that right out of my workday. Currently, I'm putting that time into my workday so if they want me to cut back to 8 hours or less so that they can make sure I'm in the office, well, mission accomplished, champs!

I'm just digging on the reduced fuel usage and commute time in a WFH situation. Still have to go in, but not everyday. HW definitely gets more productive work hours from me in a WFH situation. i.e I'm not going to be working at 7:00 PM if I'm went in to the office daily.

No. Not quitting because of driving to work. Quitting because daytime eldercare near me hasn't opened up yet. Quitting because I don't want to expose myself or my elderly parents (at-risk of extreme complications) due to the virus. It's an easy choice to make. Accept a new remote-based job so my parents are more likely to not contract the virus from me and stay alive.

This is looking bad, our government is actively collaborating with companies like HON to quickly push people into offices. Three statements, from CDC from WH and from all governors now declaring its 'safe to go to office at 100% capacity'

About a week before the decision was made last year to send everyone home for COVID, I asked for temporary permission to WFH until the threat passed, based on medical grounds. Then everyone was sent home anyway.

FWIW, that request flagged me, and I was included in the July RIF.

Another example of HW refusing to think progressively. I left over a yr ago and work fully remote and I can tell you, my new company is 100% more collaborative than HW is in person. Leaders like Darius and Maddog just need to get out and observe real life instead of sitting in their offices counting their millions to see how collaboration really works. Just another ploy to force people out. The worst leadership I have ever seen amd the worst company to work for.

CDC to remove mask rule!! What a shocker, looks like our DEA gets to know CDC regulations prior to everyone else, I told my manager that due medical condition I cannot wear a mask today morning and he said CDC will drop mask requirement for vaccinated people by July and HON will do the same!!

I know of 2 aero engineers that left after the initial announcement came out about the requirement to have all employees return to the office. I expect more to leave now that it’s official and the timing has been communicated.

Why is it mandatory to return to the office when none of my group members are in that office? It makes zero sense. Everyone is scattered across the globe.

Absolutely. Dropping this on the work force in the last couple of weeks before school ends is a little late, even if the proposed start date is several weeks away. Many kids summer programs are full, because they started enrollment a couple months ago and are not staffed to accept more kids. It is straight up wrong to tell parents to stash their young children in any place that still has availability 3/5+ days a week.

I've told my manager I cannot wear a mask due to medical reasons, he said would get back with alternative arrangement. Hoping CDC makes masking permanent
